I recently passed through a major international airport. Me and the wife headed for the restrooms while waiting. I went to the men's side.. as designated by the little blue and white man symbol. She went to the blue and white side with the woman in a dress. But.. in between, there was another door that had both symbols on it. Uhhh. what's that all about?

That's a "family" restroom. If you are travelling with small children, elderly folks, or anyone else who needs assistance using the restroom, then the person and their caretaker can use this restroom regardless of gender. For example... a 40-year-old man is travelling with his 85-year-old grandmother. She can't use the facility without assistance. She can't go in the men's room, he can't go in the ladies' room. That's why they now have the family rooms.

It is a unisex bathroom where both men and women can use the restroom at the same time. This share restroom was used in Europe for quite sometime. Most european don't see anything wrong with this.. If the bathroom have a female and a child symbol, this is usually mean it's a family restroom where the whole family can use it together.

I have not seen that type of signage personally but I think it might be one of two things:
1) it is a "mobility access" toilet - for wheelchair users or people with mobility difficulty - the room probably has railing and larger room. May be the "wheelchair" symbol is missing?
2) as the other answer suggests - it is for unisex use. It certainly is handy for situation such as when a father who needs to help his young daughter with toilet - but of course he might feel reluctant to take her into the men's - and same with mother/young son scenario. That unisex toilet would be ideal as it eliminates the need for a parent sending a child into a toilet on its own.

well... that's my opinion, anyway
And thanks for the two points

That is the room that either man or woman can use with an infant......
They provide a sliding table so you can lay your little one down while you do your needs, also you can change your child's clothes and clean him/her without having eyes all around you.
