I just converted to a muslim. But somebody said it is the obligation for a muslim to pray 5 times a day. I wonder can't we have allah in our heart?

Yes very much. It's one of the pillars of Islam.

It is important to do your five prayers; it unites the Muslim community and enhances your spirituality via God. But, alot of Muslims (that have been Muslim all their life) don't pray 5x a day and you can still be Muslim if you don't. I don't pray 5x a day, but I admit I should. May God forgive me. You should still try to be a good person, do good deeds etc. Maybe you can slowly incorporate prayers into your schedule. Perhaps you can think of God at the time of prayer, then gradually you can say a short prayer, and finally do the prayers. Take it easy and God bless! Congrats on your conversion.

yes. if you can make out time to practice 3 hours yoga for the sake of mind healing.. then you sure as daylight can do 5 times prayers for 5 minutes each :) For the sake of life.
I personally Praise Allah for showing you the right path :) Hang in there, it WILL get tough and tougher. But it'll all pay up in the end. My IM/email are open for you!!

masha'allah u converted! yes its a MUST 2 pray 5 times a day coz salat's position is like a head's position in a body. leaving even one prayer intentionally leads 2 kufr/disbelief. salat is a thin line between kufr n islam. whoeva neglects salat is said 2 hve demolished the structure of deen coz salat was a special gift tht our ALLAH(SWT) gifted 2 muhammed (saw). a person standing in slaat is said 2 be speaking 2 Allah directly. Allah (swt) asks us 2 solve all our problems thru salat...wat can b more better dan dat? der r many hadiths on virtues of salat u can buy da buk fazaile amaal in which ull find hadiths on zikr, salat, quran n many things........n yes if we only keep allah in our heart than man can do so many sins n still say 'i hve Allah in my heart, so wats wrong wid wat i do?' ....isnt it? n think abt it y wud we get a proper decorum in holy quran 4 each n evrythin ?
this notion is only a trick by satan......ders a hadith in which its written dat satan is afraid of a muslim till he keeps on establishin regular salat.........read da translation of da holy quran n ull get an answer 2 ur ques n also wen we pray 5times properly a day we actually get reward 4 prayin 50times a day! plus as sum1 above said it yes i too agree dat wid all da favors Allah has showered upon us 5times seems nuthin in 4nt of em....
may ALLAH guide u Ameen!

yes sister, it is. it is one of the best practices of Islam. the practice was established so that we would keep Allah in our hearts and stay in remembrance of him all day long.

i asked a friend once why we must pray 5x a day. he is a deeply religious and spiritual person. he responded, "If we were capable of truly knowing how much love and mercy God had poured out upon us, we would pray 25 times a day and cry for weeks."

peace and blessings,
Sakina

ps mashallah! i also reverted to Islam two yrs ago so feel free to email me with other questions

yes, i think its one of the pillars of muslim called salat wherein muslims are required to pray five (5) times a day and even reciting a memorized prayer.

i agree with you that God can be in our hearts, no offense meant but i believe that prayer should not be in pro forma or made up prayer, coz prayer is talking to God, an expression whats inside our hearts..

No, just if it's convenient for you. Unless you blow something up or throw a rock at a tank, then you can skip a prayer on that day.
