Some programs are in the startup folder under Programs, those you can just delete. If they do not show there, that means they are listed in System startup registry. I use my Spybot Search and Destroy Spyware blocker. If you install and switch to the advanced menu, under tools is a "System Startup" option to view a checklist of all startup processes. Just uncheck the ones you want removed and Voila, no more load on start.
It is a free product by the way. The website is http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
Plus having this and Ad Aware Se by Lavasoft provide pretty good protection for Spyware when both are used. (But now you have two more startup processes.

As previously stated
Go to Start - Run.
Type in msconfig
Click on Start Up tab
Uncheck the ones you don't want to start
Navigate your way out.
BUT make sure you keep:
1] rundll32 - essential
2] ctfmon - if you have MS Office
These two are the only ones you really need for everything to work.

To remove programmes from the start-up menu in Windows XP, go to the folder that contains the items:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Start Menu\Programs and remove the shortcuts for the items you don't want any more.
If you don't want them on your computer taking up space and resources when you don't really use them, using the 'add and remove programs' option in control panel to take them off completely.

Try TuneUp Utilties 2006....
Startup Manager is a great utility to help remove unwanted startup items. It goes one step further than msconfig will...it actually REMOVES them completely from the startup list, instead of disabling them
There are lots of other great utilities included in this software. Try it you won't regret it..

If you can see these programs when you go to Start > Programs > Startup then just right click it and choose delete.
If they are not there, then go to Start > Run. Type msconfig and you can choose which programs start from there.
