Sounds to me like an excuse for him to get out.
If you asked that, something concerned you about how he was treating you. You were probably right. He was probably misusing you because he had lost interest or is simply not a nice guy.
Either way, that question is not the reason, its just what he wants you to believe it is because that would mean it was your fault and not his.

A guy would love to have sincere words or something logical to him, from a girl.
When it comes to breaking off or slightest indication, he may be testing you. Guys don't just give up on girls so easily. Don't even try to apologize - he will come back to you. It is easy for a girl to woo a guy not the other way round. Apologize if he comes to his senses i.e. if he comes back to you but never, never go to him and apologize.
I don't think you are insecured (if you could admit it). I think you are sincere in asking the question, not in a negative way but something important that you need to know.

No...now if you are asking him that kind of question, doesn't that show you that there is a problem there? Why are you feeling this way towards him? maybe things aren't working between you and this is just an excuse to end your relationship.
