rocks do not petrify - you are speaking of petrified ( fossilized ) wood - which is wood that has absorbed minerals that hold the shape and grain of the original wood

it comes in more than one color - but it will have the appearence ( grain ) of wood - but it's rock !

Everyone is a bit confused here ... petrified means "made like a stone" so a stone is by nature like a stone ... other things can become petrified ... like wood. Petrified wood will still show the features of the original wood but *might* be hard to identify as petrified wood if you can't immediately see the structure.
