If I had had the opportunity to read or hear anything the Founding Fathers wrote or said, I'm sure I would have been a revolutionary! I have often thought that if I could have lived in another time, it would have been the time of the Revolutionary War. To be in the presence of some of the greatest minds in history would truly be an inspiration!
Side note to Yeo3;
This is the first I've heard some of the information you presented, perhaps an element of ignorance on my part. Be that as it may, know this; I would stand the line with you, my brother!

Definitely a traitor/revolutionary/rebel. My ancestors fought in the American War for Independence and, as a ex-special forces operative who volunteered time and again for this country I know where I would have stood as well as I know where I have stood in my lifetime as well as today and where I will stand in the future. It's all so certain with me.
We must remember that 1/3 of the colonists were Tories, 1/3 were Traitors and 1/3 were fence-sitters. The same is true today on a host of issues. A minority of Americans are leaders who have thoughtfully educated themselves on a host of issues and stay informed and actively involved in the political process.
Some tug one way, others tug another. Many are spectators if anything at all. That's the tragedy. But as long as I'm in the game I could care less if they want to sit on the sidelines.
With the proper resources and personnel I would have loved to fight the Crown going far beyond what the Americans did to British solidiers. Risking everything including my very own life. Without risk there is very little reward.
Not that money is the route of all fun but do you believe Bill Gates would be the richest (reward of some significance) man on Earth if he had stayed in college and become a bureaucrat or a corporate errand boy? I know people with MBA's who are truck drivers because they couldn't find a job. Instead of creating their own business they're looking for someone else to be the risk-taker.
I own a series of unrelated (diversification) businesses so I hold no contempt for the rich (although not much in esteem) as I consider myself a capitalist who produces new products/services and helps employ my fellow Americans.
Not that truck driving is a bad thing by any means. I don't know of too many jobs where you can walk in the backdoor, dress like a slob if you choose, not shave and still learn more about the businesses that you visit than the employees know or the company would tell you if you walked in the front door with a suit on.
Some of the most informed people in America are truckdrivers. Appearances can be deceiving. But the only people who are deceived by appearances are usually those that are sucked into vanity too far.
You know the type. Latest car, clothes, toys...all to excess. Those types rarely serve their country with honor. They're usually only into what they can get out of other people. Or what they think other people think of them.
They would likely be the fencesitters or the Tories supporting the Crown of today. What's funny is that after 230 years of our so-called freedom and independence the Bank of England still owns 1/8th of the Federal Reserve System which is a privately held corporation.
Between 1929-1932 the owners of the Federal Reserve systematically, through monetary policy, removed over $8 billion dollars from the American economy. This raping and pillaging of the United States people promulgated/perpetuated the greatest financial disaster/crime in the history of our nation.
You won't hear any of this from the mainstream media because they are owned (through majority stock) by the same folks that own the Federal Reserve System. Those are really the leaders of the modern day Tories. Beware at your own expense!
In 1900, the average American paid roughly 5% of the earnings towards taxes to the federal, state and local government. Now it's over 31%. Then the public debt (again federal, state and local combined) was virtually non-existent. Today, it is phenomenally behemoth.
If we fail to properly address these issues America will collapse and become entirely subserviant to the wishes of those who own the Federal Reserve System. This is not in your best interests unless you are one of the shareholders which is very unlikely. However, doubt me if you must - there is a 14-point plan of action in place that, if you read, will make everything clear.
If you fail to take a stand for American Freedom and Independence who will? If not now, when? Your fellow Americans may not know these facts. Spread the truth. Every journey, no matter how great, begins with one small step. Start now!

That all depends on my social class. If I was poor I would like to support the "rebels", because it would give me a chance to move across the Appellation mountains to start my own farm. If I was rich it would be nice to pay fewer taxes and the poor would also cut back on some taxes as well. Besides the French and Indian war was for us to get protection from the Natives and WE should have paid our dues. People in England were paying much more then the Americans did for the cost of the war. (So we were just spoiled babies.) But as you mentioned, we were regular people with much to loose. So I would not want to rock the boat.

I would be a revolutionary because we had the greatest communicators in world history who made compelling cases against the king of England. Our forefathers impressed upon us that "freedom should not be a right from the state, but by the hand of God." I would not have been one who would just tend to his fields by day and sit by the fireplace by night. What good would it be to toil all day only to have the kingdom confiscate over half your goods and not give you the right of representation over your affairs or estate? Just having the promise of a new kind of freedom to enrich and better lives would have been sufficient enough for me to load up ye olde musket.

Given the political scene at that time, I would have not only been a rebel, but may have belonged to an organization like the sons of liberty. Someone who would help stir the pot of freedom up.

well as an American i would want to be a rebal. but this is a really good question. it would truly depend on how much the Brittish were screwing with my everyday life and liberties. Id prolly start off not really paying much attention, but then get more into the rebellion.

Considering the taxes we have to pay now, the corrupt government, still fighting while the rich make a profit off of war, we didn't really win anything.
