I'm bipolar, and the down-side of my cycles tends to coincide w/ winter and the holiday season, so I'm often depressed during Christmas. I actually answered a similar question (and was given best answer!), so I'll just post that answer again:

I always wonder this, b/c I have Seasonal Depression and winter is the HARDEST time for me!

This year I decorated my place early, I play the Christmas music *I* like (I'm a traditionalist myself), I wrapped all the presents, I made gifts for my neighbors (nothing fancy), I baked some cookies, and I burn a pine-scented candle since hubby won't let me buy a real tree. These things have helped me.

If you're a spiritual person, one thing that might help is reading the Bible, especially the 4 Gospels. What better way to get in the spirit than reading about why we celebrate this day to begin with? Another thing you can do that will help boost your spirits is to do some charity work. Donate a toy to Toys For Tots, find a local Angel Tree or Giving Tree, or volunteer at a local homeless shelter. It does help you feel better about what little you might have when you help those that have nothing.

And for some frivolous fun, watch your favorite Christmas movies, drink some hot cocoa or eggnog, and bake some cookies!

You know, some people just don't wanna THINK about Christmas during this season, so here's some OTHER suggestions to help you get stoked for summer!

Watch surf videos, or flip through your pictures of summer vacations. Don't have any pics of summer vacations? Google some pics of Hawaii, buy yourself a CD of ocean sounds, and do some mental imagery! Picture yourself on the sandy North Shore surfing with Jack Johnson or something cool like that.

Surfing not your thing? Then think of summertime activities you DO enjoy--mountain biking, hiking, fishing, etc. and find some pictures related to your summer hobbies and remind yourself what's coming up in less than 6 short months!

Pretend that money is NO object and plan your DREAM vacation! Order travel guides for places you'd love to see at Christmas. Personally, I would LOVE to spend a Christmas in New Zealand! Perhaps someone in New Zealand would love to trade places w/ me so they can snowboard for Christmas (and if that person is on Yahoo Answers, please email me!! :)). Wherever you are, you can always have fun imagining yourself being somewhere else!

No matter how you decide to help cheer yourself up, good luck!

It may not really have anything to do with Christmas. You may have seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Winter depressions are the most common manifestations of it. Simply going outside and getting a good hour or so of sunlight can help treat it. There are also special lights that you can buy and sit in front of.

Yes, somewhat, even though I love/hate the holiday. Millions of others are in the same position....maybe we could start a support group?
Also, I tell myself "it will all be over soon and life will return to normal." Not much help, I know, but it helps me a little bit. I do try to look for the humorous in every situation....sometimes what is tragedy one year can be somewhat humorous 5 years later.
