this is not unusual at all.
many people "gain" such abilitys after near death experiences, something along the lines of the idea that being exposed to what is called "the veil" in such a way can help the person be aware of these things.
some don't need such an experience to see them.
these gifts *ARE* from God, (assuming that its not interfering with your life or trying to make you do obviously wrong things, like hurt people) and that is who you should ask for guidance.
if your honest to yourself, and God, and ask for guidance, you will get it. just open your mind to the answer you get, and trust your instincts (which God gave you) as to its authenticity.
edit: >>"I would feel comfort in knowing that there is life after death. I mean I do believe, but having that ability would clarify it. "<<
as someone who has had experiences that prove to them beyond a doubt that the afterlife and such does exist... well, I guess you could say its comforting. I can't imagine it being any other way, as the existance of the afterlife is as certain and part of my life(I guess you could say) as Gravity.

That's actually really cool and you should take this as a gift. Maybe communicate with these spirits. Maybe since your surgery you were able to get to a different and higher level of spirituality in which you experience these things. I have deja vues almost every day and I have dreams that happen probably about once a week. I've never visualized a spirit but I have definately felt thier presence. I dont think you will ever know exactly why this is happening to you but embrace it and take it for what it is. It may just be a great gift of life and becoming a higher person. I really recommend the book Far Journeys...It's very insightful about things like that

I don't have an answer but I am interested. Perhaps it has something to do with the afterlife after all...I read somewhere, on this forum, that when people died in this hospital, some people can see the soul's leaving or feel a certain force. Now, I don't know if that has to do with a certain religion or not, but it could possibly mean that there is some sort of afterlife.
As for you, if you died but came back to life (even for a brief few seconds), you could have the ability to see what isn't "there"...I dunno...its hard to explain...

catholic has nothing to do with it, so forget that part. what you are experiencing is an awakened sense of self awareness., you are beginning to see what is real and setting aside expectations of what you thought was real. it is a common occurrance for those who have had a near death experience, as well as those who have been technically dead for as long as several minutes, to begin becoming aware of that which exists beyond the physical limitations of this universe. i suggest you go to a bookstore and pick up some reading material covering the subject of the paranormal, life after death, and related topics to understand what is happening, and how you can help it along, as well as some of the pitfalls to watch out for. like anything, it has both good and bad aspects. all you need to do is learn the difference between them. and as you learn, you may even be able to understand more than you expect right now.

Yes i take you very seriously and if i was you i would pray to God and ask him why he has give you this gift what does he what you to do with it tell him your concerns and wait on him for your answer it could come back in the form of scripture, he just may tell you straight out. but what ever you do don't give up praying until he answer you and i am sure he will .
I will pray for you to that God will give you the answer you need

Unfortunately your Catholicism may be at odds with some of my experiences, but I will share them with you. We live in a world filled with energy. When we die (in the physical sense) we don't cease to be, our energy our spirit lives on. Only in spirit form we don't have the same needs and desires as when in physical. Therefore seeing 'others' is a gift and if it gives you comfort call it a gift from God. You are a fortunate person, but be careful there alot of needy people out there who look to the spirit world as a means of answering all the questions and inadequacies of their life. Spend some time communicating with them and enjoy your gift! Good luck!

Yes it must be a gift. Is it scary to see ghosts?
Your lucky. I think many people wish for that gift. If I had it, I would feel comfort in knowing that there is life after death. I mean I do believe, but having that ability would clarify it.

Well, you didn't really die, or else you would be dead. But a life threatening experience can often bring you in touch with the rest of what's out there. If you consider this to be a gift, then enjoy it. Sorry I can't be more help.
