As long as he is in daycare its a good chance he is going to be sick cause of the amount of children around. Dont feel bad about this cause its normal, treat his symptons with over the counter and make sure when he comes home at night you wash him and his hands well. Also proper diet with veggies can help him fight off some of the bugs from day care.

Unless he is a sickly 2 year old in general, this is not a bad thing.

Kids need to socialize. At this age, getting to know each other is sometimes bonking each other in the face and getting your daycare teacher's worked up and crazy!!! A 2 year old will chew on a toy, give it to his friend [who proceeds to lick it and rub it on his head] and then leave it on the floor - for child #3 to stick up his nose.

Be realistic. He will get sick more because that is the way daycare works. If he is really sick, get a second opinion. If you worry about the daycare, ask parents of kids who USED to go there. Or just change daycares for one that you feel better about.

For the phlem a kids cold medicine, lots of warm baths, a humidifier and some time will work it out. Younger kids in daycare will get sick more often. A doctor knows this - and will dismiss a really sick child on the first visit if the mom seems over anxious and a worrier [the hypochondric mom]. And doctors are less likely to prescribe antibiotics now as well ; Make sure the doctor is doing a full check up [eyes ears nose throat etc etc etc]

On the bright side, daycare is one of the best things you can do for a younger child. Think of it this way - if kindergarden is all socialization [which it is!], imagine the fantastic start your child will have. And if there are learning, occupational, speech etc etc etc [any delays or problems] it will be caught 2-3 years earlier then a child at home with his mom who is not in daycare!!

Get out the kleenex and cold medicine. Beef up the cozies, humidifiers and get ready for the ride :)

Immunise against everything you can if your going to send to daycare, daycare (and schools) are like germ playgrounds. Even if you have taught your child to wash there hands after toilet, blowing their nose, before meals (ur baby might not be toileting) And if you have taught them not to cough over everyone, there are children that dont know or forget. These kids cough and sneeze everywhere spreading germs. We all hope the carers are doing there jobs in keeping things hygienic but in some centres there are alot of kids to watch. Has the doctor checked for an infection, you may need antibiotics, it seems like a long time to have a cold. There are cough and cold meds you can get. If you ask your pharmacy they should be able to help. Sometimes they are not recommended

Daycares are breeding grounds for germs. When my son first started daycare it seemed like he was sick constantly. It may be that he just has been having cold after cold. For phleminess, though, I have heard that sitting in the bathroom with the shower as hot as it will go (not IN the shower, just in the bathroom with the door closed) helps to loosen things up.

You may just have to wait it out. There's not much you can do for viruses. If it lasts another week or so, maybe go back to the doctor, since it might turn into bronchitis or something (which would require anitibiotics).

If it makes you feel any better, my son is 4 now and he NEVER gets sick. I think he's immune to everything after being exposed to so many germs in daycare!

I hope your little guy gets better soon!

I have four kids and go to school and work, is there anyway you can change your schedule around to fit a friend or realtives schedule? or maybe look into a private home day care. Daycare centers are notorious for keeping kids sick and having kids come home with bruises. I know that is not always feasible and everyone's situation is different I commend you going to school and bettering yourself, but your poor baby, he has to be feeling awful as i'm sure you do. try patting his back with a slightly opened fiststarting at the base of his back and going in circles around his lungs it should help make the cough more productive.

children are suposed to stay off daycare if they have runny nose and colds, but if the children come in with them then more children are all going to get it.its just one of those things with daycare as he is with lots of other children.

as for the bruise, that happens aswell, hes playing in a big group of children and accidents will happen, but the staff should be dong their best to prevent it.

it can take a while to get rid of a cough when hes still in the daycare with all the runny noses. after a while he will become immune to them anyway, which is good in the long run.

You can try the over the counter children's stuff but it makes my son crazy since their are stimulants in them. I have the same situation, I was home with my son for 2 1/2 years with only one illness in that time period and since daycare he has had a runny nose or cough for the past 3 months. I usually just send him into daycare since they gave it to him and he doesn't complain. I have been having sinus problems since I went back to work 3 months ago as well.

I recently was talking with a client who has children who have the same issues with the OTC medications that my son has and she recommended homeopathic meds from the local health food store, so I am planning on checking that out myself. Good luck.

i work in day care, kids are always sick, ur little one will get the sickest because he hasn't built up an immunity to illness like those before. as for the bruise on the child You should have received an accident/ incident report the day it happened, question his teacher, and if she doesn't know where the bruise came from ask to view the tapes some centers allow that some don't. Most day cares don't document injuries unless they leave marks, or bruising on the skin. good luck

I don't think the nasty cough for a month is normal. It must be painful for the poor kid.Get him to the doctors and demand for a prescription cough medication. My daughter had it.With meds.and inhaler she is doing good now.You can give him an airborne vitamins. It prevents people from getting sick. And if they already are,it helps to get over it soon. You can also get him into sports. It helps a lot.

my toddler began daycare/preschool --she is 3 going on 4--and caught a bad cold her first day! It has been over a week. They are exposed to sick kids so they get it too. Doc said it was to be expected. Doc said to try dimetapp cold and allergy.
