Do you know forwards crossovers?
If yes, read on.
If no, you should learn them first.
1. Find an open area in the arena. (preferably one with a circle on it) Stand there with closed sholders. (Same arm position as forward crossovers.
2. Do a backwards 1/2 pump with your outside foot. Be sure your weight is on the inside foot!
3. Instead of pushing the foot back with the other foot, cross it over. Convert your weight.
4. With your outside foot (when your feet are crossed), push.
5. That should get you to do a backward crossover.

It's the same as forwards crossovers except you move backwards. The outside foot is always crossed over the inside foot. Here's a website with useful tips on crossovers and basic skating: http://home.pacbell.net/anamga/basicSkating.html#2.7

well it is the same as forward crossovers. First you do a half backward swizzle, than you Cross the foot over, then you hold it for like three seconds, then take the other foot out from under the other foot. Do not forget to bend you knees.

this is gonna sound stupid but they are just like forwards cross overs but backwards... depending on which way youre going your left or right foot lift up off the ice and cross over the opposite foot while moving backwards, now the trick is that when you cross your one foot over the other foot you transfer your weight onto the foot you just crossed over then you lift up the other foot and bring it back to the spot it was to begin with... here are some basic steps...
(going counter clockwise, moving backwards)
1. have both feet shoulder width apart
2. take your left foot, lift, and place it on the ice on the other side of your other foot
3. (now with your feet crossed) lift your right foot off the ice and bring it back to how your feet were in step one
4. repeat
HINTS:
-you can practice the motions holding onto the boards first
-it sometimes helps to twist your shoulders so your upper body is facing inside the circle you are skating around
thats the basics... hopefully that helps...good luck!

you need to be actually skating backwards first, then cross one foot over the other while keeping the pace. whatever foot your crossing over, make sure to have the arm on that same side out in front of you
