A slang term from the South meaning, in a long time. Although the term "coon" has been used as a raciest term to refer to black Americans, so it's not a term that I would recommend using.

it actually refers to what some soiutherners would refer to negroes as, that is 'coons. short for racoons. they dark, with stripes and rings around the eyes, and the similarity to slaves having dark skin and chains, and scars from the whips used to discipline them. seems harsh in todays social climate, but fifty years ago it was accepted as a proper term. however, unless one was around then, or if one was ignorant of the real meaning behind it, it would be a proper address, though not by myself, or anyone i know. there is a dictionary of slang available at a library, but few people really read something like that unless they need to know the origin of a word or phrase that may be spoken to them. it has some very different meanings than what some words and phrases mean today.
