It depends. Did you make the Chocolate Cake from scratch?

I suggest contacting a vet with information on the cake. The size, the brand,.. the frosting.

It is posible on one hand that your dog is just about to have their heart rip a hole in it's self,.. on the other they may not be effected if it's just artificle flavoring,.. and they will just get a little sick from so much sugar.

So calm down and figure out if it really had chocolate in it and if so how much. Contact your Vet or a Vet or an Emergency place for Pets. If it just had alot of Chocolate it will likely need to go in and vomit or have a shot to stablelize it's body's reaction to the chemicals in the chocolate.

They have to eat an awful lot of chocolate to get sick. If the dog starts throwing up, having convulsions, shaking, or behaving abnormally tonight take it to the emergency vet.
Just keep an eye on it, it will probably be fine.

I had a thief dog who used to break out of the yard and bring home all sorts of bizzare things. One night she was acting really weird, shaking, panting, eyes dilated, rapid heartbeat, I held her most of the night, had no idea what was going on. The next day way up in the back yard over the top of the hill I found a huge pile of bite sized candy wrappers - she had stolen someone's halloween candy, brought it home and carefully unwrapped and eaten every piece!

depends on how big the dog is and how much cake it ate. If it is a small dog, he will likely get sick, diarrhea and vomiting in which case you need to get him to the vet as this means he ingested enough to be harmful to him. If he is a large dog and did not eat much, he should be fine, not enough to poison him, but maybe enough to give him a bout of diarrhea. If you have a 24 hour emergency vet in your area, call them and ask them at what point you should bring him in for treatment. For now, watch him for signs of illness.

Don't panic, the dog will be ok. It's not good for them to eat stuff like this but a one time thing should not be the end for your pet. Now you know how quickly this can happen so I'm sure you will remember it and never leave food that is not good for the dog out again.

If it is a large dog, he will probably be okay he may have some diarrhea. If it is a medium sized dog (less than 50 lbs) and he ate a lot of the cake, I would at least call a vet.

Chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. Different types of chocolate usually have different levels of theobromine. Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.

So, for example, 2 oz. of Baker's chocolate can cause great risk to an 15 lb. dog. Yet, 2 oz. of Milk chocolate usually will only cause digestive problems.
Theobromine affects the nervous system so if he is restless, irratable, has increased urine, the runs of vomits I would contact a vet right away.

Call an emergency vet clinic and see what you should do.

My dogs get into chocolate all the time. They have never gotten sick from it. They are little dogs too..and have been known to eat a half a bag of M&Ms. (big bag).

But some dogs do not do well with chocolate, so please call the vet.

Well... dogs might not die from eating choc cake (it's real rare if that happens), but the dog might get really HYPER. Ask around to see if anyone ate it (e.g. your older/younger members of the family, or friends etc.) If in doubt, consult your vet ^^. Hope this helps.

Chocolate is in simple terms poisonous to a canines while it ingests between one hundred and a hundred and fifty milligrams in keeping with kilogram of bodyweight. whether it became an entire cake chop up between the three of them it does not kill them. probability is the main you will could take care of is diarrhea. in case you're unclear then call a community emergency vet and ask. recommend over the telephone is often unfastened!
