Well for those who don't know about binary, the other part of the joke that is funny is not just that there two states on-off <-> 0-1 but also that since the first four digits in the decimal system: 0,1,2,3 are 00, 01, 10, 11 in binary then it makes sense. Those who know binary and those who don't know binary are really two kinds of people -> they are 2 kinds of people -> they are 10 kinds of people.

Sorry for those of you who know binary. I know this was painful to read but we gotta explain this in full detail to those who don't.

Oh yeah here's a similar joke that binary one:
There are only 10 types of people in the world -- those who understand binary, and those who get laid.

Here's a hexidecimal joke:
If only DEAD people understand hexadecimal, how many people understand hexadecimal?

Here's a general math joke: A math prof was walking around campus discussing a formula with a fellow prof when he noted that both of his shoelaces were untied. So then he crouches down and ties only the lace of the right shoe. The other prof finds this peculiar and asks "aren't you going to tie the other shoelace?" then the math prof responds "oh you know I thought that by symmetry the left lace would've tied itself.".

Excellent entry. It makes people think. In Binary code, there is either an "on" or an "off" switch, designated by a "1" or a "0" response. This is what the computer actually reads. Every computer geek, including myself, totally enjoyed this. Thank you. Very funny as well.

The only answer to this joke is a smile at the expense of those who count by tens.
