I don't think he will die from a broken leg. It sounds like it is injured if it's swelling. How did it happen? Can he walk on it? Tonight put some water and food by him so he can reach it. I'm a little worried about the sleeping all day - maybe he's hurt in his belly or head. If at all possible take him to the vet.

This is a very serious problem. My cat recently broke its leg and if we hadnt got him 2 the vet as soon as possible or just ignored it he would have died. The vet may seem expensive but if when you get there he needs an operation you get a choice operation or he gets put to sleep. This is your decision if you love him you will give him the operation but if you cant afford it the humane thing to do would be to put him down. It may cost alot but your cats life is at stake and if you really care it wont matter how much it costs.

If it's a broken leg, he won't die, but he may become lame if he isn't treated by a vet.
Your mom may not want to take the cat to a vet, but if the cat is still hurting tomorrow, then she needs to do that.
The best thing to do, if you can't get to a vet, is to make sure your cat doesn't need to get up to get food or water. His litter box should be next to him, but be prepared for accidents. Make the cat as comfortable as possible.
What happened - do you know? Internal injuries will be more serious than a broken leg.
Is the cat's nose wet and cool, or is it dry and warm? If it's dry and warm, then the cat is sick and may be fighting an infection or may have serious injuries.

You need to get him to an emergency Vet now. Yes...NOW!
He could have problems w/his circulation due to injuries which could possibly cause him to lose a leg! Any person would have to go to the ER if a broken bone is suspected. I broke a bone once and it hurt horribly and was very swollen - it's important to make sure the circulation is not compromised otherwise you kitty could lose a limb or it could cause cardiac problems.
So go to the emergency vet now or at the very least call your reguarly vet and say it's an emergency. Your kitty must also be in pain, and needs approved pain meds and an x-ray.

I think so, the symptoms of a frature are:swelling in the injured area, obvious deformity in the injured area, difficulty using or moving the injured area in a normal manner, warmth, bruising, or redness in the injured area.
If you can't afford to go to the vet, make your own cast for your poor cat.

You need to take your cat to the vet. Maybe you could pay the money back to your mom by doing chores or something.

It amazes me how people will let an animal suffer excruciating pain because they dont want to spend money. If your mom thought her leg was broke, would she go to the doctor?

Well if you want.... ride over to your nearest vetinarian you know of. With your cat and say your mom wouldent bring her, So I came myself. If they are friendly they may have a look at the cat. Since she will be in pain (As I see it in your post.) But this may result in police questioning your mom and she may get angry.

If you can't or won't take your sick cat to the vet, then take him to your local humane society or animal shelter and surrender him. Don't make your cat suffer. Geez.
