HOW DO WE STOP "in your face violence and sex" on TV?
I see TV programs getting wilder and more outrageous ever week. Shock quality gets greater and greater each month and vilence has become acceptable behavour to our young adults and to young kids who see vilence as just a way of life and they are not affected by it at all. How will they act out when they are in their teens?
And Sex, it is no longer private. Sex is no longer a personal thing. TV has destroyed the mistique of sex and no longer will young people be allowed to grow up without it in their faces. I watched The Opra Show last year and she detailed the widespread US School Bus Sex activity which is very common in the US. Boys of 10 and up being "serviced" by girls of the same age and younger. That story made me sick and ashamed than it is not even being addressed and stopped! Little girls growing up believing they have to "service " boys to be accepted - eekk!

I guess my simple answer is that it starts in the home. Watch what your kids watch on TV - hell they shouldn't be watching that much TV anyway. Go with them to movies, check their video games, etc. All sure to bring up protest from others, but see how many people who complain about watching your kids actually HAVE kids.

I also believe in letter writing as a group if possible to networks and advertisers. My company once had someone complain that an ad (by a company we had an event booth at, not our company) had someone in a straight-jacket and that was offensive because it made fun of the mentally ill. It was a Halloween ad!

IMHO it was a stupid complaint (but I have never been in a straight-jacket so I could be wrong), but the point is that everyone in upper management at 10 companies read that letter and I'm sure some ad agency will look into that next year.

No real action was taken, but they know a complaint was out there. Right now as long as it looks like no one cares they'll try and get away with whatever they can while they can.

It's called the OFF button. The more people watch this stuff, the more it will be there. But we don't have to watch it just because it's on. It's our right and maybe even our duty to turn the channel or turn the TV off. We can always read a book or spend time with our families and friends. There's a wonderful world out there with wonderful people in it. They're much more interesting than TV.

Hit 'em where it hurts which is in the pocketbook. It all comes down to money. And where does the television industry make all its money? From its advertisers of course. What you do is NOT buy the products and services of those advertisers sponsoring these shows, and in fact, actively boycott them. Be vocal, write letters of protests. To the networks and the advertisers and try to get other people to join you. One person CAN make a difference and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Getting the media involved can help too if at all possible. They don't want negative publicity. But then again that can backfire by just creating a buzz and interest in the controversy surrounding the show, making people want to check it out.

HOW DO WE STOP THE bad grammar and spelling on the Internet? Don't ask questions like this... you KNOW you can't do jackshit about it. The most you can try is send a letter, but that's going to be a waste of time because the majority overrules you and says that we love sex and violence on TV. It is ultimately the parents' and guardians' faults that children are being exposed to this so-called corruption, not the TV's, okay? They should guard what their kids watch if that's the case... and there's a reason why the whole age 10 boys and girls made Oprah! It's because it's rare...

Buying power. Don't watch them. They don't good rating they will be canceled. Don't buy the products advertised on them. Look at what happened concerning Merry Christmas vs, Happy Holidays. Dollars speaks volumes.
Call TV stations and complain as well. Enough people protest vocally and with their buying power it will change. But the watching public is going to have to voice their concerns in unison for it to change.

There is a function on both the televsion set as well as the remote. It is called the "on/off" button. Click the button once and the television goes on...click the button again and the television goes off. If you don't like what your children are watching on television do YOUR JOB as a parent and turn the television OFF and get their butts away from the television.

Don't let your kids watch those shows. It's THAT simple. It's like saying "let's abolish alcohol cause it might harm our kids". And we all know how well that turned out.. assuming you paid attention in middle school history.
