there is alot of crime and gang activity in my neighborhood which is most hispanic and black. My apartment has robberies every month and I too was a victim. A few nights ago I was looking out my window and saw a car pull up and some young men dressed like gang members (big shirts and baggy pants and using alot of profanity and playing loud rap music (it was 1 am). One got out and went into an apartment and the others remained in the car and then there was some kinda of argument and about 40 minutes later a guy got in the car and another screamed angrily at the other and the car drove off with the people inside playng loud music and hollering profanities out of the car. I want to call the police when I see this stuff but don't want to give my apartment number or have the police come to my door and don't want to waste the police's time if these guys are gone when the police get here. I am very concerned thought about these kinda people as I have to live around them.

I just feel that these guys were up to no good as why would a bunch of guys dressed like gang members and using profanity and all be running around in a car together at 1 am? I don't anything good can come about at the time. I know they werent' going to work or to a club or anything. I have a feeling they were going out to deal drugs or commit some of the many robberies that occur that hour of the night in this area.

YES CALL THE POLICE. I am a police dispatcher and what you are describing is a very legitimate call. We spend a lot of our time on calls that are stupid but this would not be one of them. Generally if you call from a landline-ie it is attached to your wall, then we will know your address but you can say that you want to be anonymous and that you do not want to be contacted---happens all the time and the police respect that. If we did not, we would not get half the tips of crime going on that we do. If you call from a cell phone you will have to supply us with almost all of the information (Again depending on where you live--some places are more advanced). Also, every city has a drug/narcotics hotline and you can ask what it is so that your apt bldg or neighborhood gets put on the list to have a sting operation occur there or to have special drug patrols.

Firstly, the pointing your finger at your mother and saying "ohh Mr poxey is going to get you" constitutes an assault under sct39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1939 however because of the tone you said it in, it will negate any assault charge so don't worry about that. Secondly it appears that you and your mother have a tense relationship and seem to be winding each other up. My suggestion is that you find alternativeaccommodationn as these little mishaps may one day become serious and will lead to an arrest which will be unfortunate. Thirdly, if you were to punch yourself in the face and say your mother did it, this is wholly unacceptable and the evidence to prove this will be immense, so please do not consider it. as you will face prosecution over 'wasting police time' which can carry a six month prison sentence and/or a fine of up to £5000, so i wouldn;t advise going down that route. I really think you need to move out, and give each other some much needed space.

Depends on the city and who's running it. Check your PD's website. Most of them have a crime tip or contact us option. Report it there. I'd do it anonymously and see if it helps. Calling them won't really help in my opinion. They should have a narcotics/gang/organized crime task force. Things like that I'd feel better if they were investigated. If your cities PD is on the ball they will pick the gang to pieces. They'll find out everything about them. If they are apathetic gangs will be on the rise and take over that area. If that was the case move to a better area. The FBI has a tip option also. They might want to know also, one of their roles is to monitor corruption and crime trends... Good luck...
PS if you take these steps this is what I consider the A-bomb of all actions. I'm sure you'll get results! I'd do this before going out there myself and gunning every last one of them down. :)

In the UK you can call the police until you are blue in the face, it wont do you much good, they are all out cruising about in their cars, its not very often we see police actually walking about the streets even in day light, (its far too dangerous)!!
When I was a teen the cops were all over the place and if they thought a good smack around ones ear was called for, I would get a good smack around the ear, plus another one from my Dad if he ever found out. This is probably why I have 'cauliflower' ears, but at least we used to run a mile if we saw a cop on the beat.

If you are serious about this, contact a local gang task force. Take as many notes as you can personal descriptions and plate numbers would be a start.
p.s. Don't let anyone around you know that you are doing this.

The police in the city won't come for a noise disturbance, at least not quickly, say you saw a crime, or don't bother

disturbing the peace is all they would get my advice: move as soon as possible. before you move tho, find a few places and call the sherrif's office and ask how many calls the neighborhood gets, and what they are for.
