Jaundice is yellowness of the skin and mucous membranes, due to increased level of bilirubin in the blood. Jaundice may be a) hemolytic. This is due to increased destruction of red blood cells and indirect bilirubin is more. b) Hepatic. The problem is with the liver cells, usually infection as in hepatitis. Bilirubin is both direct and indirect. c) Obstructive. There is a problem with the drainage of bile from the liver into the gall bladder and small intesine. Direct bilirubin is more.
I hope this answers your question.

In short if you look Jaundice you have a Yellowish color to you that is not normal for your skin tone. [ It's kind of like that visualization that someone is going to get sick so they turn green. People turn yellow or more yellow then their normal state when they look Jaundice.]

Most people don't need to know anything past that. Past that it's something is wrong with your organs like your Liver and Kidney so your skin becomes discolored as your blood fills with nastyness that hasn't been flushed out of your system properly.
