Start with a small peice of hair in the front of where the ponytail will later be centered. Imagine if you drew a line from your front hairline back to where the ponytail will be centered.
Take this small peice of hair...the thickness would be smaller than the thickness of a nickel if you tufted it together...

divide into 3 sections...1...2 ....and 3

Take section 1 and cross it over section 2. When you do this, the first section becomes the second or middle section. Do the same on section 3. Alternating.

Flip the left over the middle....flip the right over the middle...flip the left over the middle...flip the right over the middle. Do this until you have a regular braid.

You will get familiar with the right and left flips and this is a regular braid.

To make a french braid....
you need to "Add a peice" to each flip.

To do this you take a finger and collect hair from the sides and add it to the flipped peice. It takes a bit of charisma to figure out which peice is which but eventually you will get the hang of it.

You draw in more hair from the side and slightly lower than where your braid is. You collect completely in that the section you use goes from your side hairline aaaaaaaaaaalll the way to the braid. I usually take my finger at the sides of my face by my ear, touch my fingernail to my scalp and make a line all the way back to the braid and collect the extra hair into that crossover section. Then it becomes a part of that section....then I crossover like usual.

Collect from the right and crossover and collect from the right and crossover. Again and again until it's all the way down my head until it reaches the back of my neck and then it switches to a regular braid. I regular braid it until I get pokey hairs sticking out and then I ponytail it in a band.
I hope my description is good enough. It's hard to do without showing you myself.

You cannot do that, because if u want a ponytail and a french braid then you would have to do a french braid first then a ponytail when you are close to the end of your head. That is the only way to do it. You cant do it the other way.

You need to divide your hair into two sections. One section is from the mid-back of your head to the nape. You will need to leave this section alone for now.
Start your french braid at the top of your head going back toward the crown and then to the mid area at the back of your head.

Take the braided section and hold it in one of your hands and take the bottom sectio of the hair and brush it up like you were putting it up in a pony. Then put the pony and braid in the same hand and use a scruncie to secure it.

So, the braid is on the first half of the head to the occipital bone. Then gather the rest of the remaining hair and put it together.

divide your hair like ponytails, and then braid each side separately.
