My little Ebony has a cat-flap to allow her freedom to the outside during the day but I have to keep it taped open as she just will not push it open herself. She is intelligent but for some reason she will just not learn this trick! Any suggestions??

Have somebody that she likes stand on the other side and you on the other and just push her through, the other person push her back to you just keep doing this for about 5 mins for about 2to3 days she will soon learn.

This is how we taught our cats and we have 7

My cat was reluctant to use it too. We gently pushed her through a couple of times and that did the trick. You could leave the flap down, leave her inside and you go outside. You then call her to come and join you outside. By leaving the flap open for her you're not helping her to learn to use it. If you have birds coming withing sight of the cat flap, it won't take long before she's pushing it.

Just try to push her through it a couple of times. when she is outside close the flap and rattle food in her dish her her favorite toy if she is inside throw her toy out there if she wants it back she will get it back herself

Do not leave it open.

Every time she sit on the front of it...push her through it head first.

If you do that for about a week, she will eventually get it...

But be careful...as she might expect you to keep doing that...

Mine has no trouble getting in and out at night when I am asleep. But during the day...he expect me to open it for him. They do like attention and you need to draw the line somewhere or they become your master.

you could let her stay inside until she wants to go outside
then if she finds no way out she will probably force herself through the cat-flap.

otherwise:

she's either scared of the cat-flap
preferes staying inside
has problems with the outside world
or is just very stubborn

good luck

stick her outside, then rattle a tin of cat food or biscuits from the inside. as soon as she does it once, its learnt. she will probably go back and forth a few times after that coz cats ( or dogs in my case) think its cool.

Write in big & bold letters right above her door: "EBONY`S CATFLAP-- ENTER & LEAVE THROUGH HERE ONLY! P.S. YOUR DINNER IS WAITING FOR YOU IN THE KITCHEN".

That should get her priorities straight.

If not, hire a doorman.
