You need to go to a medical supply store and get a special tray they have for it. They also have a no rinse shampoo you can get.

You can get a tray from the drug store, some are inflatable and some hard plastic. You use pitchers of water to wash the hair with. If you don't have that, take a large garbage bag, roll towels under it to make like a sink. Hang part of the bag off the bed and drain into a bucket. Form a funnel. It will work, but can be messy. I have done it both way. The sinks you get at the store have a drain to it. So all the water goes right into the bucket on the floor.

For the times I have been in the hospital I usually get stuck in bed because my foot is the only place they can get an IV in and they use the no rinse shampoo, it is cheap and easy to use just squirt it in (liquid) and use a towel to rub it dry and comb good as new =) hope this helps!!

Get a large bowl of warm water, and place it underneath the person's head while they're in bed and have them lean back and lay their head into the bowl. You may want to also place a large flat tray (like a cookie tray you use to bake cookies) underneath the bowl to catch any water that sloshes out. Then you can gently wash the hair and rinse. Don't forget to put a few towels underneath the bowl and the person's back so that the bed doesn't get wet.Hope that helps!

There are "dry shampoos" available for people who are bedridden. You sprinkle the stuff on the hair, rub it in, and then just brush it out. It's not quite as good as real shampooing, but it gets out most of the grease and dirt.

There are things called shampoo caps. Just wet the inside, place the cap on their head, and proceed to massage into a thick lather...rinsing?...umm, you're on your own.

There is something called waterless shampoo that you can buy at drugstores. It works well and is relatively mess free.
