yes u can make in samll katoris but used greased ones.

Idli preparation:
Parboiled rice: 4 measures
Urad dhal: 1 measure
Fenugreek: 1 tsp

Method of preparation:
Soak parboiled rice and urad dhal , fenugreek separately after washing them with water overnight or atleast for 5 hours
Drain excess water and grind urad dhal into asmooth paste adding water little by little. Add the soaked fenugreek along with urad dhal with the water that was used for soaking fenugreek
Drain excess water and grind rice. This will take a longer time. Keep adding water till u get a smooth paste.
Mix the urad dhal batter and rice batter witha fist ful of salt and mix the batter well with hand preferabley.
leave it overnight or for around 8 to 12 hours.
u will notice that the batter raises by fermentation.
Mix the batter with a ladle and store it in an airtight container in rthe refrigeratror.
This will last without furthur fermentation and turning sour for 3 days. after that u can use the same batter for making dosas
You ahve to add, spoonfuls of batter in the katories and steam it in a pressure pan without weight.
You can use a kadai also.. pour water in kadai. Place a perforated plate in the kadai and place your katoris on
theplate.Close the kadai.
Steam for 10 minutes, till you get the nice cooked smell of idlis.
