Swift Meat employees were once mostly well paid American citizens. I do not know the particulars but the citizens refused to do this body busting labor for peanuts so it is also a little known fact that companies such as Swift recruited illegals to fill the jobs that were once good paying jobs. I do hope if what you say is true.
Then maybe Washington will get their heads outta their cork holes and listen to the American worker NOT the American corporations but I am afraid it will have the opposite affect and we as WORKERS will loose again!

In all the news articles I read about the Swift raids, I NEVER heard mention of a town called "Cactus." However, if there is such a town and if such a town died because of the raid on Swift, then that town was only existing artificially, anyways, and if Swift can learn from it's mistakes, then Swift should now be offering those jobs at decent wages to LEGAL American citizens and those new employees will probably resurrect the town of "Cactus" and it will be better than ever because the new employees will have more money to spend and boost the economy of your town! Hooray! Good riddance to the busted ILLEGALS!! Report and Deport!!!

There will be plenty of Americans that will be willing to take on the jobs that are vacant at Swift now. Stop acting like Cactus is going to die now that all the illegal mexicans are gone. There were people working at Swift before the illegal invaded it, and there will be people working at it now after the illegals have been deported.

pastrbuzz what you are saying makes no sense. illegals only work those jobs because they are illegal. Employers are being made to pay a certain wage to the American worker, its against the law not to. We have the work force, we just dont have the law abiding factory owners. How dare you continue to tell the lie that Americans wont do the work. Why should we do the work? Why should that company even be in business if its breaking U.S. laws? Alot of people would be drug dealers too if that were legal, so does that mean we should all break the law in order to turn a buck? You would probably snitch on a drug dealer real quick, but why not a factory owner who is breaking the law? Double standard there buddy?

Well, it's unavoidable. But, ask yourself the question, if you were in charge of the immigration system, and you knew that there was all of this going on, and that the law was being broken, and that companies were hiring large numbers of illegal aliens, would you condone it? You're in the Big Chair, what's your answer? What's more important, making a lot of money, or upholding the law? Is it moral, or a-moral to tolerate businesses operating in breach of US labor laws?
How much money would have to be involved for you to accept breaking the law as a normal way of doing business? Drug dealers make a lot of money too, even though they're breaking the law.
Would someone have to give you some money for you to look the other way? Remember, you're in charge of enforcement...
it's your job to see that the law is upheld. Given your answer, what is your expectation of the people that work for you that are supposed to enforce the laws?
It's a tough question, but to the minds of many people, the correct way to handle all of this is for the law to be upheld. Either that, or the law has to be re-written.

Well, if the business owners were making their money from illegals, then I don't feel too darn sorry for them. They were part of the problem.
Do you feel bad whenever they do a big drug sweep and arrest all the drug dealers? I am sure there are business owners that lose money when that happens too. Illegal is Illegal.
Maybe all those business owners should go to the Swift plant and apply for a job--I hear there are openings.

Some of you folks just don't get it. USA is the champion of Free Enterprise- Market forces. But you still don't get it!
The reason you have "illegal immigrants" is that there is a NEED for workers (HIGH DEMAND) and not enough Americans are willing to do the work they do (LOW SUPPLY). Your Exceptionally unwise immigration policies do not allow for the proper amount or skill level of immigrants to legally enter the country to fulfill the HIGH DEMAND for employees. So- The supply comes from other means- Illegal immigration.
If you had immigration or guest worker policies that allowed Latinos, or others to come in and fill the HIGH DEMAND- there would be no ilegal immigrant problem- they would all pay taxes, there would be freer movement across the border, you would know who is in your country.
This may be a newsflash to some of you, but a lot of the "Illegals" only go to USA for the money. They actually like Mexico or Guatemala, or El Salvador. Most would rather work in USA for 4 or 5 months and then go home to a better quality of life with family, friends and culture. A lot of the "Illegals" crossing the border are people who live in the USA regularly and have jobs to go to, they've just been home for a while.
Institute a humane guest worker program and the problem is almost completely solved. The Demand will decrease, because the supply is high enough, and without the demand for workers, they will stop going- it's not actually that nice of a place to live, it's just that the money is good.
The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Try something different. Cuz it is broke, fix it.

Swift has to accept responsibly and take the responsibly for whatever decisions they make. Other people are lined up for those jobs so it's just a minor setback
