I am so sorry your dog killed your rats. I understand how you feel. My lovely, sweet Little Boston Terrier killed a kitten a few weeks back. She had no malice in her heart when she did it. Instinct. She is such a sweet dog you wold not believe.
The Corgi was bred to herd and the daschund was bred to kill badgers and other vermin. And in case you don't know this wild dogs, coyotes, dingos, wolves etc. from which all our little dogs came, a large part of their diet is rats and mice. When the wild dogs are run out of their natural habitat you get a proliferating of rats and mice.
So actually all dogs have an instinct to kill small animals.
You are Right to not be upset. It is a sad thing. But your dog does not understand. If you rdog was able to understand she would never do anything to hurt or upset you.

The corgi is a herding dog, but probably would go after vermin to protect the herd if need be. Dachshund's were originally bred to hunt badger and would go down in to the badger hole after them, they are fierce little hunters. If I'm reading your question right, it appears that your dog may have killed or seriously injured your rats? Your dog was just doing what it was bred to do, I'm sure it did not mean it and it's hunting instinct just kicked in.

A corgi is a herding dog, and the dachshund is bred to get badgers but have a very terrier personality. Any breed of dog may harm small animals, but dachshunds do tend to go after small animals.

Huskies..... quiet?? OK, they don't bark much but they howl, which is worse. For the sake of your neighbors, anyway. Also cats and huskies? Not very likely. First time owner? Don't get a husky. Though maybe the golden part is more dominant, which would mean the dog is perfect with all this stuff. But a large dog needs CRAZY exercise, much more than you think is possible anyway. Also huskies shed A LOT. Goldens shed A LOT too. Which means that the mix will shed CRAZY lot! You like hair all over your clothes, your furniture, your food, and the very air you breathe? Fine. You don't like vacuuming all day? Don't get the golden/husky. Also this is only the year round shedding, when it's time for them to "blow" their coat (which happens twice a year) you'll feel like crying! Now for the Dachshunds... Are they suitable for 1st time owners? Hell no. Can they be a good dog for almost everyone? Hell no. Are they excessive barkers? Hell yes. Do they smell like a wet dog even when they aren't wet? Yep. Do they shed? Oh boy, do they ever. Not as much as the husky/golden mix will, but still, way too much. Cats and dachshunds?? Are you kidding me? They have such a high prey drive, I wouldn't dream of a dachshund making friends with a cat even in my wildest dreams! Same goes for huskies, of course. Do they dig and chew? Oh. My. Effing. God. YES! (though so do huskies) So what do I suggest? I suggest going to a shelter and adopting a dog, therefore saving a life. I suggest asking the shelter people about the dog's history so you know what you're getting into BEFORE you're getting it. I suggest adopting one, because shelter dogs are usually pre- trained and that really is the best way for 1st time owners like yourself! I suggest adopting one because they live longer. Also they cost a lot less. Their shots are all done and they will let you know about any issues the dog might have, like barking or medical issues. And they're tested around other pets & kids & stuff too. I suggest adopting one because mutts are simply amazing and the best choice for any first time owner! But in the end, it's your call! Hope I helped =))

Doxies are hounds, they track small game by scent, mostly burrowing animals, hence their size and shape. Corgies are herding dogs, they herd livestock by nipping at the animal's heels until the move. Corgies won't usually bother small animals, but a doxie will definitely go after a rat, they're bred for it.

Corgi's are Herders..Doxies are in the Hound Group but should be moved to the terrier group in My opinion! They were bred to go into tunnels/holes and pull out or Chase small game..If you lost a Pet Rat It was the Dachshund coming out in the mix.My Cousin has one as does my son..They are NOT the sweet little lapdogs that they appear to be..In My opinion they are as wired as a Jack Russell. The Many I have met .The majority of them Chase Cats..Dont listen,Tend to be hard to housebreak...Stubborn little Guys....I doubt your Dog Knows she hurt you..Her Prey drive was just to high....Sorry It Happened...We live and learn and you are right she's following pure instinct!!!!

Yes that dog is a hunting breed. The corgi is a herding dog while a dachsund (meaning "badger hound") is a hound used for hunting and tracking badgers, that live underground, that is why they are long and slender.

Yes, daschunds were bred to be long in body for fox hunting because they could get into the fox holes. Corgis herd so they may nip at your heels out of instinct.
If you are having issues it is probably from the dachsund in her.

As another person said, corgis are herders, dachshunds are hounds. However, many dogs from all groups instinctually see rats (or rabbits, or squirrels, etc.) as prey items. I'm sorry you lost your rats. :(
