Westphalia is a region in Germany which includes present-day cities of Bielefeld, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Munster, and Osnabruck. It is roughly the region between the rivers Rhine and Weser, but since the name Westphalia was given to different places at different time the true meaning of the name is unknown. And for some history for you, Originally Westphalia was part of the Duchy of Saxony, until it was elevated to the rank of a duchy by Emperor Barbarossa in 1180.

There was also a Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1813 founded by Napoleon and was a French vassal state. After 1813, it became part of Prussia
