When I try to push the seat forward or backward, it just moves little and stops and does not go all the way as if something is holding it back. I can hear a click when I push the button forward or back, so I assume that it may not be an electrical issue. Can anyone guide me as to what may be the problem and how to fix this? Thanks everyone.

The gear may be shot/stripped.

Odds are pretty good, unless you have something stuck in the track, that the motor will have to be replaced, and it is not a job for someone who doesn't have much expierience with this type of thing, because you will have to take some measurements, check the old motor with an Ohmmeter/Voltmeter. I'd suggest taking it to a competent mechanic.
