im 16 and fed up with it already. I used to take O.T scriptures not litterally and i would take the deeper meaning from it. I put a question about it and got called 'a non believer.' It seems like the church is just digging in our pockets to pay off families of sexual abuse victims. Mass doesnt make any sense to me. What religions dont follow O.T. scripture and just focus on N.T. scripture?

Christians (of all denominations) are by definition followers of Christs teachings, hence the New Testament. But as reference is often made in the N.T it is very 'handy' for Christians to quote from the O.T whenever it suits their purpose. This is one of the reasons that on this forum they make reference to 'The Bible' rather than the 'New Testament'
I catch your drift about 'deeper meaning', but this surely must apply to both bibles not just the O.T?. Or do you really think that the parables of Jesus should be taken literally?
I can understand your confusion but the more you research the less convinced you will be.
I can also understand people needing to believe in God (I don't believe) I have been rightly called 'unbeliever' for many years, its nothing that I have any guilt about at all.
You may have been given that title because you don't believe in your branch of Christianity? Or even in your choice of religion, so what?
As for your belief in God, good luck to you, no harm in that, the harm arises from people arguing over which silly religion is 'true'!
Pray to your God in your own way, you do not need a religious leader or teacher or even a Holy book to do that.
Have you noticed I haven't tried to convert you away from your belief in God? I wish Christians would adopt the same approach during their rantings.

A few suggestions:

Take the old testament any way you want to. Be prepared to defend your position, and don't worry about the criticism. Most people have it wrong anyway. You might also be one of them.

No Catholic is obligated to contribute any particular amount to the church.

If Mass doesn't make any sense to you, than begin an independent study to find out what the Mass is all about. You might be surprised at all the stuff that happens during Mass. And all of it is good and necessary.

You're a little young to be picking your own religion. Wait about 5 more years and see if anything changes.

Your parish office or your local diocese should have audited figures available which detail all the expenses of your parish, including your pastor's salary and auto expense.

And so far as complaining goes, you have no right to complain about what your parents decide to donate to the church.

You also have no right to criticize someone else's choice in pets, or where and how they choose to socialize, especially at your present lowly state in life.

Frankly, your whole attitude leaves a lot to be desired. After 16 years, you still don't seem to have a clue as to what Christianity, let alone Catholicism, is all about, which is charity and self-giving.

Please ask your parents to slap you for me.

I left the Catholic church at 13, then became a believer in Jesus in the Baptist church at 41. Please don't make this same mistake. I was lost for those 30 years, got into all kinds of trouble, drugs, and came close to dying many times.
Go to a Baptist church, we concentrate on the New Testament, but there is much to be learned in the Old Testament, also.
One of the things I dislike the most about the Catholic church is that the Pope's word is taken as truth above scripture. That is so far off base, it's not even in the ballpark.

The fact that you are 16 is interesting because I have known some people who left the Catholic Church with the same sentiments as you.

There are people who blindly follow the Catholic Church in spite of the obvious mistakes that they have made in dealing with the huge number of sexual deviates.

But there are a few who saw the direction that the church was taking and was also very much aware of the incredible sums of money that are in the hands of the church. Realizing the direction that the church was going, the smart ones simply quit.

I haven't left the Catholic church, however I joined it in conversion.

You fail to see the parallels of the OT and the NT. What you see in the OT you then see the fulfillment in the NT.

For example; the prophecy of the coming of the Messiah. And the description of Christ to the letter in Isaiah; you see in Matthew, Luke. And this goes on and on.

The reason the Mass may not make 'sense' to you is that you do not have a clear understanding. It is a shame that your parents haven't shown that to you and you do not have the reverence that the Mass is. The Mass is the celebration, glory to God. It is receiving the food from Christ Himself. Do not forget; we are humans that are two part beings. Part Human and part Spirit. We can have that hamburger to fill our human self; we definitely need food for our souls and that is the Eucharist, as is commanded by Christ himself.

The Old Testament is showing of God's Justice. You read it everywhere there. Then the focus now is the New Covenant; and that is Christ and the New Testament is a showing of God's Love. Again, that parallel is God's Justice and then his Love and Mercy. Why reject one when it shows God in all the forms He has chosen to show us?

Speak to a trusted spiritual director, your priest, your parents.

God Bless you

hi, basically you may make certain that for your self. you may be relax guaranteed that no one has ever come decrease back from the authentic useless to verify which faith is authentic. also Revelations is amazingly such as the prophecies of Nostradamus, uncertain and obscure and diverse human beings can shoe horn of their personal beliefs or agendas. The whore of Babylon may be some thing from the Catholic church to Tammy Faye Baker or the Beast some theologians say is Rome with its seven hills to the european union. distinct theologians have distinct evaluations and so a procedures not some thing has been proved. hence you basically ought to settle for what you imagine is excellent then take your possibilities like some thing else human beings, basically on blind faith. If there is God and Jesus, atheists are in massive worry; if Pastor Theo or Chris are good, i'm in massive worry; if I and thousands of thousands of others interior the RC faith are good, they are in massive worry. That reported, I left the RC church for a lengthy time period, dabbled in different issues then got here decrease back. The door is continually open if you favor to go back. Cheers, Michael Kelly

I aam not a catholic but i feel that any time your church will only hire people who refuse to have sex with the opposite sex you are asking for trouble.
The church is still taking the position that preist should only be hired who are homosexual or plain sexless.
The only way a normal person could give up sex with the opposite sex is that they have no sexual urges due to disease or accident or war, or crime, or was born without sex organs.
Normal people want ot have sex and whne they do not than they are not normal and are not fit to be leaders of a chruch.

A few years a go a poll on the catholic church andit's preists was made public in spite of the church's objection.
Of those (over 1000) preists who agreed to be interviewed 60% said they were homosexuals, and had engaged in homosexual sex with each other and church members oftenm with under age boys.
\
Nuns refused to a poll or interview under orders from what else ? Their male leaders.

The best thing that I can suggest is to read the Bible--Old and New Testament--for yourself. If you want to only concentrate on the New Testament you will be missing some important lessons. The whole Bible flows together.
Try and find a Church that preaches and teaches from the whole Bible--I am sure you will not be disappointed!

I'm Catholic too and I was not taught to take the old testament literally becauce it was replaced by the new covenant when Jesus died for us and the new testament began. Maybe it is just your church. It isn't the religion as a whole.

Please, all Catholics have battled with their Faith. Now it's your turn, you are free to will what you feel is best for you. I've done this. Now, I am a, proud Catholic. When you're through doing your search, for the better church, you'll see what I mean, you'll see us again, real soon.
Around the bend, or bench. It is my calling to be
Roman Catholic.
God bless us all...
