I have done tons of research on the breed from the day my puppy (Kya) was born so I know a lot about the breed. The one thing I can't find anything on is normal growth patterns for Labs. Would anyone happen to know where to find something in inches for height and pounds for weight? Kya is almost 14 weeks old (born September 13th) and I measured her last night. She stands 15 inches tall from floor to shoulder. I don't know her weight but by height, is that normal? She just seems so big to me for so young since famles are only supposed to be 21 1/2 to 23 1/2 full grown! She also has VERY large paws and pads on her paws. Both of her parents were within normal ranges for size for Labs according to the AKC but I know that is no indicator for her size because other relatives could have been larger. Just out of curiousity. I don't care how big she gets, I love her dearly!!! Thanks!

Oh and one more question, at what age are they fully grown? I have found conflicting information on this with ages ranges from 6 months old to 18 months old. Wide range so I just want to know a more accurate time frame. Thanks again!

Sthrnduff - Kya was the runt of the litter and I have raised cats my entire life so I know being the runt means nothing. Kya is now bigger than at least 3 of her 9 siblings, I haven't compared her to the other six. (Yes they were a litter of 10!) I'm just wondering if there is anything I can find to compare her size to and if her being this big is normal. It doesn't bother me, completely out of curiousity.

Toots - I have been the AKC site, hence why I added the normal female size for Labs according to the AKC in my original question. It has nothing about growth patterns as they grow up.

I have a female yellow lab(Kenda) that will be 1 on December 20. I love her soooo...much!! I have done some research on them also and i know that they stop growing at the age of two. They have a mild growth spurt between 4-7 months. My lab weighs 58 pounds and is very small for a lab. I also found out that there are 2 types of labs, the hunting(between 95-150 lbs) and the older bloodline(50-95 lbs) that is smaller and seems to be calmer than the hunting breed. Of course all labs are born to hunt. The weight of the lab can range from 50-150 pounds(WOW!!) and i am NOT kidding! Your lab will probably be a bigger lab and in the hunting bloodline. I have had both the hunting and the older bloodlines at the same time and i have seen a significant difference in their behavior. So ya, that is about as much as i know. Well i hope you have as much fun with your lab as i have mine!! Happy holidays and good luck!!

just like any creature it will they will grow at different rates. just like the runt of the litter is the smallest born but sometimes turns out to be the biggest dog. I have been around and owned 1 lab and that height doesn't sound abnormal to me. the biggest thing is to watch her weight and exercise her. Labs are born to hunt and run all day long in the field or swimming. make sure that she gets lots of exercise outdoors she will love you more for it.have a great time with Kya.

Go to AKC.org and look up the Breed Standard.
