how to give my puppy a pill?

i have a 8 week chuwauwa that i just gotten and taken it to the vet with a stool sample and they said it had tape worm and gave me a pill i try to break it up in lil peaces and he spits it out i can get him to take it in how can i get him to take the pill?

Get some braunschweiger (liverwurst) from the grocery store and wrap it around the pill. The puppy will gobble it up.

Step 1: Begin with a play session and praise to relax your puppy. Then get on the same physical level as your puppy. With a large dog, kneel next to him while he's in the sitting position; with a small puppy, place him on a grooming table or a countertop.

Step 2: Place one hand over the top of the puppy's muzzle . Hold the pill in your free hand and then gently open his mouth with that hand.

Step 3: Place the pill in the center of the tongue as far back as you're able to reach. Then close your puppy's mouth and hold it shut while you blow gently but quickly at his nose. This will cause your dog to swallow before he has a chance to spit the pill out. Give him a treat immediately afterward to ensure that the pill has really been swallowed. End each session with play and praise.

I find the easiest way is to wrap it in a small piece of cheese or meat, he will swallow it before he realizes that it contains something foreign. I then have another small bit of meat or cheese to give him to make sure the pill went down. This works only for a few doses of med. before the puppy catches on, after that, its the old trick of pressing on the sides of his mouth to get him to open and putting the pill far back on tongue and holding mouth closed till he swallows. This way is the hard way, but......

Try putting the pill in some liver sausage or other meat your dog will wolf down. That's one sure and easy way to get the pills down with your dog being any the wiser plus it's a nice treat for them as well.

Put the pill in the middle of a small amount or raw ground beef or some canned dog food. As he swallows the meat or chunk of dog food the pill goes with it.

If the pill is small, open his mouth wide and drop it at the back of his throat. Then close his mouth and rub his throat til he swollens it. If the pill is bigger, you'll need to put it in a small bite of hotdog so he eats it without knowing what he's eaten. Make sure he doesn't spit it out.

Take your thumb and index finger and without hurting him pry his mouth open. Take the pill and place it on the very back of his tongue. Then hold his mouth closed and gently rub his throat in an up and down motion. This will make him have to involuntarily swallow and down the pill will go. Don;t worry it won't hurt him. If possible get another family member to kinda hold him for you so it will be easier for you to get his mouth open.

You can dip it in gravy or wrap it in a very small piece of cheese. That is how I get my dog to eat his pills. If that does not work see if you can grind it up and put it in your pets food. Ask your vet first to see if it is OK to grind the pill up. Good luck!

When our cat had to go on a pill antibiotic, they gave us a little tool, kinda like a straw with a place to put a pill in the tip and you put it in his mouth and push the the button or whatever on the tool and it puts it in his throat. It sounds worse than it really is.

Here is something that may seem cruel. Try putting the pill in peanut butter pry mouth open and put peanut butter on the top jaw.

You may need to break up the pill first.

You can try putting it in some treat like liverwurst.it won't be able to taste it in something like that.Or you can hold it's mouth open wide and push it all the way to the back of the tounge and then hold it's mouth closed til it swallow's it.
