The old testament stories (creation, noahs ark, cain and able, etc.) did not occur the way they are described. Ex: When it says 'God made man from dirt,' the author of Genesis is trying to help the Jewish people of the time understand creation. We are to take the meanings from these stories and use them in our lives, not sit around and question how Jonah could have lived in the stomach of a big fish.

Don't take old testament scripture literally. If you all were real catholics you would look into scripture for a deeper meaning.

Well first let me say I do believe what the Bible says about the stories of creation and Noah's ark and Cain and Abel. Many have expressed concern about these stories. Creation...

I believe in a literal 6 day creation and I believe that science backs this up. I believe the theory of evolution is bankrupt and is on it's way out. There are so many resources in which we can study to support that.

Noah's ark ...
again I believe it as it said it happened. I believe the fossil record supports the idea of a world wide flood.

Cain and Abel....I'm not sure which part of this story you are concerned with but I believe it happened as it states in the Bible.

Jonah and the big fish.....

Who says Jonah remained alive during that time. The original translation states that Jonah was in "Sheol" or the grave. Jesus was ressurrected after 3 days and I believe Jonah was given a similar ressurrection and that is why Jesus refers to this example.

I'm a christian and I am open to any of this type of discussion and I hope my answer reflects that I understand why anyone would question these stories. They are so "larger than life". But science and history support them in my humble opinion. God bless you and thank you very much for posing these questions. It gives me a wonderful opportunity to discuss what I have learned over the years about the historocity and authenticity of the Bible. If you would like more answers of why us crazy christians believe as we do...here is a wonderful sit to viist.

Sir, I would suggest you read 2 Timothy 3:16, and 2 Peter 1:21, all scripture comes right from God so I would be careful going around discrediting what God has said through His prophets.

Anyone who believes the bible is literal truth is mistaken. god is imaginary, so that takes care of most of the bible stories right there.

If god had actually existed and did "inspire" the bible, how come it is the dullest prose ever written? I mean, any Stephen King novel is better written.

I do not know where you get this from, but you are wrong my friend.
The events in the old Testament are true, and are to be taken literally, except in Danial when he is talking a the future.

What you are saying is not able to be proved. Sorry. Some believe it to be myth, some alegory, some false. However you wish to take it, it's only one viewpoint.
