im doing a survey for school on what people think about families that adopt children that are of a different race or background.
1. how old are you? 44
2. what is your background?
Canadian, 'white upper class," masters degree education.
3. do you have any children?
4
4. if so how many, and how old are they?
9, 15, 19, 22
5. would you consider adoption?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. would you adopt a child of a different background or ethnicity than your self?
NO because I would never adopt. 'building' a family through adoption involves the destruction of another family, and NO mother willingly "gives away" her child. there is almost always coercion and exploitation involved.
7. how do you feel about others who adopt a child of a different background or ethnicity?
I feel that in most circumstances they are exploiting people who are less fortunate than they are. In most cases, when a mother has to put a child into an orphanage, it is because she lacks the money to feed that child. This is a government violation of Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html). Instead of adopting that child, supporting the family to stay together through an organization such as the Foster Parents Plan (http://www.fosterparentsplan.ca/) is more ethical. International adoption and intercultural adoption is rife with illegal activities such as baby trafficking and kidnapping of children for adoption purposes.
Check out http://www.transracialabductees.org/ for what many trans-racial adoptees think of their circumstances. they are not happy.
I would never wish on any mother the loss of her child to adoption. And to exploit such a loss is reprehensible.

7. We adopted the children they gave us. People who adopt a child because they have certain things they are looking for are doing it for the wrong reason.

7.There are so many children in the system right now and i think as long as they're going to a good home with loving and caring parental figures, than that's great. I realize the problems with different race families, but would you rather a child grow up with parent and a family or with no one in their lives.

it is the best thing for a child to have loving parents dont matter for the nationality as long as the family is happy.we adopted a biracial baby we are so happy we adopted it is for couples to have children of their own. he is one of the best things that ever happened to us. we also have a daughter too. we love them both so much. you are racist if you think parents shouldnt adopt a child of a differant race. to me all nationalities are equal. god made us all. we are all special !!!!

Your query is lengthy, however the reply is really practical. DONT EVER GIVE UP YOUR HERITAGE!!! If your bf rather loves you, he'll admire your background. You would possibly must make specific compromises to admire his emotions, however finally 2 distinctive heritages is what makes an interracial courting lovely. If you 2 rather love eachother, dont fear, you are going to discover a technique to make it paintings!
