wine is meant to be drunk. I kind of don't see the point of aging anything. Most american wines are better drunk younger. French wines are better aged.

I live for the moment. Why wait 3 years to drink something? although, I do have a bottle of cab my friend made and the first bottle I tred was way to young. I have let it sit for a year and will try again.

no you shouldn't feel bad... most wines should be OK and good to drink after you purchase it...

Just let it open up at bit by opening the bottle an hour before you drink it.

Most people do not have the right conditions to really age wine and keep its flavor "good"... In order to age wine you should really keep it at a consistent temperature on it's side...
which is cellar or room temperature...

If you are just storing it around your house that is usually to warm... plus the temperature fluctuations do to changing sessions can effect the taste of the wine you are aging

Of course not. You should only feel guilty if you opened someone else's bottle of wine ahead of time. As the wine is yours, you are completely in the right to open it whenever you want. Even when we make plans, we can choose to adjust those plans, which is what you did. Enjoy your wine, guilt-free.

No, but you should learn how to gain some self-control and stop expecting people to pity you for things you could have controlled.
