Yes! Mostly in the southwest. Very few cases per year & not the epidemics you read of in school. Wikipedia says that nearly half of all U.S. cases since 1970 occured in New Mexico. New Jersey, Los Angeles, Utah & Arizona also reported recent cases. Check out the WHO ( World Health Org ) website for facts too.

Yeah, rodents carry disease. Its not really news. Rodents like ground squirrels can carry the disease. When humans breath dust that contains particles of a diseased animals feces, blood, or saliva, they can get the plague. I think it can also be tranmitted by rodent bites. Its not the end of the world...just something you need to be aware of and take precautions against. We're no longer living in the dark ages. We know what the disease is, how to prevent it, and how to treat it. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
