I'm planning to buy a dachshund for our kids, however, I'm afraid of dog bites. Have you been bitten or know of anyone bitten by a dachshund?

All dogs can bite. I have seen some daschunds I would not trust at all and others who are very even tempered. It all depends on the individual dog. Make sure you observe the pup's parents and its behaviour with its siblings for hints on its personality.

Depending on the age of the kids, dacshunds are not good dogs for kids. Not because of temperament but because of health issues. Dacshunds are very prone to spinal problems and can get their backs broken easily simply by jumping off furniture, going down stairs, or being picked up improperly. Once this happens, they need expensive surgery and wind up in a brace until it heals if they get mobility back. Before you buy one, be sure you reasearch the breed thoroughly and eductae your kids highly on how to care for it. If you have stairs, it's best to block them off. I have never heard anyone say they had one bite them. I just worry about the spinal issues because of their long bodies and short legs. Here's some info for you to start with:

I've had two. One miniature and one standard size. With kids around, I'd go with the standard. Minis can be a little high strung.

My standard doxie was the sweetest thing, though. Very tolerant, very docile. Just be aware that they tend to pick a favorite person and want to follow them around, and it's usually the Mom in the family.

i own one. a dach, like most animals, will only bite seriously if it feels threatened. as a puppy, he/she will bite, you just have to be prepared for it. use a squirt bottle, say NO, and repeat whenever you need to. unfortunately, my dach loves that damn bottle-he thinks it's his own water fountain.
each dog is different, but i have to say that mine is a very loving dog. he loves to meet people, and has NEVER bitten another person. they are very strong chewers, though, so try to keep the place neat. Tanner never has chewed furniture, so don't worry about that. make sure that your kids are old enough and responsible enough for the puppy, and crate train him. ours learned in about 3 weeks, and he was only 2 mths old when we got him. if your kids aren't ready for a puppy, be prepared to start picking up poopy! make sure you can handle the added responsibility. if your life is crazy right now, do the mature thing and wait. puppies need tons of attention, and dachs are lap dogs through and through! they are awesome. Tanner is my first dog ever, and i don't know what i'd do without him.

i dont think i would recommend a dachshund for children they are more one person type of dogs. very loyal and affectionate to their owner but not a good breed for children.
the best bred for kids i would say is a pug. ive never met one thats mean. they have wonderful temperments, esp for kids.

All dogs have the potential to bite unless they're plush.
