no they are totally different corn meal is coarse and you make corn bread out of it. corn starch is the consistency of flour and you use it in baking

Corn meal is just corn that's ground up. Corn starch is the starch extracted from the corn. Corn today is made into all kinds of things, but starch was the first thing made from corn. It was used to starch clothes long before it was ever used in cooking!

Oooops, seems I got it wrong. Corn meal is basically the same as CORN FLOUR, not corn starch. The latter is Starch prepared from corn grains, used industrially and as a thickener in cooking.
