That all depends on what you believe in. Do you believe in Creationism or Evolution? If you believe in Creationism, then theoretically the chicken came first, because god created all of the inhabitants on earth. So he would have created a chicken in its full chickenesk glory. However, if you believe in Evolution, then it would have been the egg that came first. Because there would have been an animal similar to a chicken that lived and it evolved or there was a mutation and when it laid the egg it was a chicken and it hatched and its genetic material caught on and walla we have chickens. Either way you want to look at it I guess.

In reality, the egg came first. In prehistoric times, the first bird the Archeopteryx at one point must have lain a egg that mutated into a slightly different variation of the bird. The same bird from the mutated egg must have as well lain an egg that mutated once more into a slightly different variation of the bird. After generations of mutation due to the ever changing environment, the chicken was produced.

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face and the egg is frowning and looking a bit pissed off. The egg mutters, to no-one in particular, "Well, I guess we answered THAT question!"

whether the chicken or the egg was created first..they are both the same...it's just rhetoric. The egg IS a chicken therefore the chicken came first.

God created form in humans, animals, birds, fish etc. So, the chicken came first and later laid an egg. When 'man' was created God did not present an ovary / egg and sperm, He created man and woman to mate and thus a baby was born. So as too, two chickens mated and an egg was created which hatched into another chick(en). Mystery solved.

it was the chicken because there is no humanly possible way for the egg to be produced with out a chicken. A chicken was either Put on this earth by god, or developed because of evoloution.
