I dont care that they are, it is just something I have noticed when listening to the police scanner.

If a preference for hiring women as PSDs does exist, it could be because female voices are often legible over various types of (street, vehicle, and RF generated) background noise, and are generally higher in register than where a lot of age-related hearing loss seems to occur. Electronic systems in aircraft and voice prompts in computer software use female voices for similar reasons.

Because this job doesn't appeal to many men.They want to be in the action, like being a police officer, not sitting behind a radio microphone.
