You wear the ring on your left hand on the fourth finger because there is a belief that there is a vein that runs straight from there to your heart. But....if you are orthodox in some countries you are married with your ring on your right, and then the bride and groom are to exchange the rings again to their left after they consummate their marriage.

I suppose you could do anything you wanted, but you wouldn't be considered married by a man scoping you out.
