We just got a new puppy he is a border collie/lab mix 8wks old. A few questions. When do we need to get his first shots? He still has his dew claws, when to take them out? Finally, is this dog going to be BIG in your opinion (his paws are very small with small legs)

Shots should begin anytime between now and 8 weeks old according to my vet. There is no reason to remove the dew claws unless a problem arises with snagging them open or something. Most dogs have no problem with this at all. Border Collie/Lab mix, I would say will be medium to a bit bigger than medium size. Depending on which dominant trait took over. Here's some info on the dew claws:

You are to late on the dew claws now they would have to be removed under anestesia like when the dog is neutered.
They do those at about three days old.
Shots start now and go until he is about 16 weeks old or has a full series from your vet.
Not all labs are huge, my poarents have one and she is olny about 50 pounds. Your dog will not be big most likely around the 50 pound mark or so. Border collies are not very large.
Should be a very smart dog and one that excells at some type of sport.

First- get him to the vet ASAP for first shots, deworming and exam.

Second - Dew claws can be removed when he is neutered, if you feel (and the vet feels) it is necessary. Some aren't very big and don't pose a huge risk. The vet can advise.

Third - border collies are generally 30-50 pounds. Labs are generally 85 on average. You'll have a good idea at age 1.

Congratulations on getting a new puppy, I hope he brings lots of joy into your life.
He needs his first shots at around 6-8 weeks old and then again at 12-14 weeks and 16-18 weeks old. Then every 12 months for booster shots.
You don't really need to take his dew claws out, they're not hurting him and it isn't a problem.
He won't be big like a Lab, he will probably be the size of a Boder Collie or a bit smaller.
