An appreciation of nature. A respect for others. Kindness. Education.

Personal history. Family history. Stories from before they were born. Stories are great because they give depth to the names and pictures in the family tree.

Also important are artifacts from the family that are passed down from one generation to the next. (I have an aunt's piano, an uncle's guitar, my grandfather's flag, my father's sword...that kind of thing.)

I like Masha's answer, above.

When my mom passed away last year, my sister wanted the calendar where she kept track of birthdays, because it was something with our mother's handwriting on it.

The best thing to leave your children is Love for GOD and all people. Money and Wisdom cannot compare to UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

1) family photos (some were taken before 1900)
2) treasured things that have a family history (I'll be inheriting from my mom a ceramic pig cookie jar and a bronze bust of Martin Luther, the Reformer, whose birthday I was born on; my grandparents gave me two now-antique rockers)
3) family recipes (I inherited my grandmother's cookbooks)
4) rare and old books (1600-something German Bible)

your house and car....just kidding

maybe letting them know not to worry and not to feel guilt for times they've disrespected you or caused you any pain

maybe approval of the choices they'll make in the future that go against what you would've wanted

just a sense of freedom for them
