Does this really have to go on for 4 weeks??? She gets meds only once a week for 4 weeks. She is confined in her crate and is just miserable which makes everyone else miserable with her crying. So she is "contagious" for the whole entire 4 weeks or more!?!?!?! Anyone want a very cute puppy with mange? My vet thinks she got it from our breeder we bought her from a few weeks ago. I called him and he said no he has never had this problem... of course he is going to say that!

Adult Sarcoptes scabei mites live 3-4 weeks in the host’s skin. After mating, the female burrows into the skin depositing 3-4 eggs in the tunnel behind her. The eggs hatch in 3-10 days producing a larva which, in turn, moves about on the skin surface eventually molting into a "nymphal" stage and finally into an adult. The adults move on the surface of the skin where they mate and the cycle begins again with the female burrowing and laying eggs.

Upon treating your puppy for sarcoptic mange and observing for resolution of the signs within 2-4 weeks.

You set her up in your bathroom (spare bathroom) and make that her room for the time being. Remove the shower curtain, everything off the floor and everything/anything your puppy can get into or contaminate. The bathroom is easy to disinfect. You can put a puppy gate up in the door way and keep your other dog away. That way your puppy has more room.

If the breeder gave you a Health Guarantee, you can have your vet challenge his guarantee and try to get a refund (and of course return the puppy) or have the breeder swap out for a new puppy.

I would hang in there and treat the poor little girl, I'm sure she is worth every bit of it.

Yes 4 weeks worth of treatment. I just answered you first question. But will say it here again... This is ewwwwww and i understand. And yes it is contagious. BUt if after the treatments are done, you feel ewwwwww still or show any signs, Treatment is simple, even if you want to do it just to be safe. Call you Dr. He will give you a lotion. Change your sheets , wash the other ones, take bath, and then apply lotion. And you only have to do it once.... Hope this helps. Also most cases of scartopic mange in humans goes away on its own, because the mite cant go thru its life cycles on humans. But the lotion makes you feel much better. lolol

Depends on the type of mange and it will take all of 4 weeks maybe more to get her cleaned up.
If this is the demodetic type it can come back at any time and stress is a big factor in it. It is sort of like and autoimmune response. They have the mite all the time but most do not react to it unless they get stressed or run down and then can have it come out. It can clear up and never return or it can come back at any time.
We treat dogs in rescue with this type and it take a long time to get them cleared up but once you do it should be ok.

Why would you ask if anyone wanted this puppy? You aren't really going to give up on her that quickly, just because she's not perfect, are you? It's not her fault, don't hold it against her.

Try criso dip its an old hunters remedy.
Caromine lotion can help the itch so that she doesn't scab herself up from scratching.
