I realize this is probably a trolling question, but what the heck - I can use the 2 points.
Not all dogs are at pounds because they're "mean".
The smaller breeds often end up there because people buy them on impulse, without bothering to realize that there is responsibility and work involved in having any dog, and they'd rather dump it at the shelter than live up to their responsibility.

In our local shelters you do not find purebred chihuahuas. They have waiting lists pages long looking for them. For all you chihuahua haters, how many times have you read or heard of a chihuahua killing a small child, an adult or someone's beloved pet. Too many of you are so scared of a tiny little bite from a chihuahua. How crazy is that?!
For the one who said Chihuahuas are not popular, they are #11 out of all the purebred dogs in the USA. That is according to the 2006 top 20 breeds. This does not incluse dogs whose owners never sent in the paperwork on their dogs, and dogs that are registered with other registries.
The shelters mostly have large breed dogs and the reason is because many people fall in love with that cute little puppy but once the puppy gets 50 lb, they dump it at a shelter. They want a cute little dog, not a huge one.

It doesn't realy matter much about the dog being small or little, it depends on how they are raised. Dog breed chariteristics do count though. Small dogs seem to be more aggresive sometimes. Maybe it's because they feel if they act like they are big, then people will think that they are! My brother will pet Pit Bulls, and he's scared of my friends Chihuaua! I like all breeds though... I don't see how people can just dump their dog off at the shelter.

Chihuahuas are more aggressive than pit bulls. Why? Because people buy them as purse dogs, thanks to Paris Hilton and other retards who think small dogs are accessories. They spoil them, pamper them, and cater to them, confusing them about whether they are a human or a dog, until they are so confused that they turn aggressive. Then they become horrible, biting, screaming monsters who attack anyone that comes near them, and the owner gets pissed and dumps it at the pound. And probably does the same thing with another dog, because people refuse to believe that spoiling a dog is a bad thing.
I'm a groomer, and I've been bitten by more spoiled chihuahuas, yorkies, toy poodles, etc. than I can count. How many bites have I gotten from 'mean' dogs (rottweilers, pit bulls, dobermans?) NONE.
Size doesn't mean anything, and neither does reputation.

Although chihuahuas are one of the smallest breed of dogs, they don't know it. To them, they are just as big as any other dog, so their temperament may seem greatly exaggerated. They love to fight with other dogs (because once again they don't notice how tiny they are)
But most chihuahuas are all bark and no bite, but the few that do bite usually tend to leave a mark because of their viciousness. All chihuahuas are not mean, it really depends on it's parents. If the dame and sire were mean, then the offspring will be too. It sort of works like that.
For example, my chihuahua is gentle. She will never harm anything, and she doesn't even bark. But the stud next door bites really hard, and loves to fight. So guess what? When the litter finally came, one of the six puppies was a biter (and she really loves to do it), while another one came out just like her mother.
^^ It's all genetics.

Chihuahuas do have a rep of being aggressive around small childern and some larger dogs. I have a 14 year old chihuahua, and she is getting more and more aggressive every week..Chihuahuas are sometimes seen as pitbulls in a smaller body...and no, the e. coli has nothing to do with chihuahuas!
My other chihuahua, a 1 year old, is quite aggressive about strangers around the house.
Being a long time chihhuahua owner, I got to learn these things the hard way!(lol)

Hi, I have a part Chihuahaua dog named Ginger. Chihuahua's have been known to snap at children. Many familes have kids , or later get married and are soon to have kids. Having been bit by one, and my baby cousin was bit by my great grandmaws Chihuahua and it was really bad.
They aren't scared about the taco bell thing, because that was from the food not from dogs.
Chihuahua's are snappy dogs around children. But they can make wonderful one person pals.
Hoped I helped!

WARNING! Do not access any links from man. ******.com contains a virus. Dogs wind up in shelters for a variety of reasons not just because they are mean. Many people buy little dogs on impulse then find out how much work they are and take them to a shelter.

Chihuahuas are nasty vicious little curs. They're more like rats than dogs (although I'd rather have a rat than a chi). They bite more than pit bulls. Pit bulls have a bad rap, most of them aren't vicious, some are so sweet! And, many dogs that are abused get mean. Just like people. Plus pit bulls have such powerful jaws, if they bite you, you are in trouble if they don't want to let go.
