You can take Amtrak to Reno from the Bay Area/Davis/Sacramento.

Yes indeed.

A trip to Reno will still leave you a long way from the ski resorts of the high Sierra.

Book passage on Amtrak Coast Starlight to Dunsmuir, Ca. You will be 5 miles from Mt. Shasta and the world class skiing and snow boarding that the Mt Shasta Ski Park offers. The real drawback is that the trip will be made in hours of darkness, if the trains are on time.

Depends on how far you want to travel. If it's going to be just a weekend thing, then taking a short trip would be in your best intrest (Reno) if you want to talk a longer one, there are many places that Amtrak runs that will accomadate that. Amtrak stops at the Izaak Walton Inn in Montana. Give them a call, and they will be more than happy to help you out.

Ummm... I would find out about the Ski train. Or take Amtrak and find out a destination where you want to ski. Go to www.amtrak.com

From Sacramento you can take the train or the thruway bus to Truckee. From there you can take the local transit bus to the ski area.

Greyhound also goes to Truckee from Sacramento.
