I intend to bring my family (Children 4 and 6 years old) to Hong Kong between 16 Feb to 20 Feb 2007. However, the date coincide with Chinese New Year on 18, 19, 20 Feb. Can anyone advise if it is a good date travelling to Hong Kong? Will Shopping Center all closed, what about dinning and sight seeing. Also will dinning be more expensive?

It's a good time to get a hotel at a good price due to low occupancies.

Weather is quite nice at this time of the year. Most shops but not shopping malls are closed on Feb 18 but enough will be open to explore the city and look around. Most shops re-open on Feb 19.

I think Disneyland / Ocean Park are still open on these days - check their websites.

Food is expensive if you eat in hotels but eating local is relatively inexpensive for the family who might like local dim sum, or just want a few rice / noodle dishes with a few more specialities.

Enjoy your visit...

Probably not the best time to go to Hong Kong, or any Chinese city for that matter. Chinese New Year is a family oriented holiday so many shops and restaurants will be closed. Also, places that are open will likely be more expensive. On the plus side, things might be a bit less crowded as most people will be home. Enjoy your trip wherever you go.

If you are able to secure flights and accomodations, it would be great! Chinese new year is unique, and while offices, factories, banks and schools are closed. Many, many shops and restaurants will be open. Most hotels organize lion dances and new year specials inhouse. The big malls will have a mix of open shops and closed shops. And yes, meals will run a little higher than ususal in general.

not attempting to be humorous, lately your wager is basically about as good as extremely anybody else. The Thai baht is being propped up with the help of the BOT, yet would anticipate the cost of the THB to chop back beforehand 3 hundred and sixty 5 days end antagonistic to the U. S.$, besides the indisputable fact that the Aussie dollar as also took a hammering over the superb 6 months, yet would wager this would get better. i in my opinion would wait until eventually Feb, remember extremely of wearing funds, you may entice-u . s . from ATMS, even although this costs somewhat extra a minimum of you're basically getting the money you want on the on the spot and dont ought to carry parts of money you may favor to modify decrease back to Aussie money on the right of the holiday
