Christmas is a pagan festival celebrating the sun god and is a worship of creation rather than the creator. The name of Christ was put upon it for political reasons- regardless of the intent and purpose of how anyone celebrates it today, it is what it is and is a cheap substitute for the authentic , God ordained feasts we should be celebrating.
For me Christmas is a national holiday- everyone is off of work (for the most past) so I have opportunity to spend extra time with friends and family, it is a time to enjoy family and traditions but I will not make it a holy day- there is nothing worng with God's established holy days and I don't need to change them

The real background of Christmas is celebrating Jesus' birth and that miracle that he wasn't killed - because the king was so threatened by this baby, who was claimed to be Christ, that he sent men out to kill him but, through God's hand, they ended up not following king's orders.
But our society has changed it and made it MUCH less biblical by taking away 95% (if not more) of all biblical traces of Christmas and adding a big man with a beard, a lit up tree and mountain loads of presents. What's really sad to me is that if you ask any kid (or sometimes even any adult) what Christmas is about, you'll get four answers:
1) presents
2) christmas trees
3) santa clause
4) family

Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. But it has gotten very mixed up with commercialism and alot of other crap. I wish people would do less buying for others and do more doing for others...then maybe we could see thru all the clutter the love in Christmas through Jesus Christ; the only Gift that ever mattered.

Thank you and God Bless....oh and have a Merry Christmas!!!

To me Christmas is about celebrating your faith with your loved ones. On the first Sunday of Advent my family decorates our home and says a prayer around the dinner table which has a candle to remind us of Jesus and His birth. Each day of Advent we light the candle and say prayer. On the final Sunday we have a special dinner and read a passage from the Bible. Christmas is supposed to be about the birth of Christ, not Santa and gifts. However, I do, like many others, give gifts to my loved ones. In the long run, we celebrate Christmas from the first Sunday of Advent to the last. It really helps us to remember the reason for the season.
That being said, I have no problem with Santa. Young Children have a hard time with Jesus and understanding what it's all about. It is easy for them to believe in magic and Santa. My home celebrates both. I love that my daughter gets so excited about Santa coming and I wouldn't want to take that from her. We work very hard to be sure she knows both Christmas traditions. When she is older, she will have memories of Santa and gifts and be able to respect the true story of Christmas with Jesus Christ.

I was baptised catholic, but my father is jewish. by the jewish faith, i can't be considered a jew. However, i did celebrate both holidays growing up. As i've gotten older i feel that christmas is a very commercialized holiday. it's tremendously spiritual and religious for the basis of the holiday but it seems as if not many people truly care. Chanukah, in my experience, was celebrated more as a religious/spiritual holiday. Both are wonderful holidays and are a great opportunity to spend quality time with your family.

IN reality: The supposed birth of Jesus. This has been seriously challenged and according to many experts, Jesus was a May birth. However, that being said: to me, its' an excuse to think kindly of others and to acknowledge them in some way.

It's too materialistic. I'm not doing it. It's not in the
Bible for us to do it. We are to be givers.
The Three kings gave gifts to the baby Jesus.
So we give gifts to our children, and love ones.
But we have gone OVER BOARD with spending,
and making more dept.
I'm giving to " Feed The Children ", I know that's
one place giving is needed.

Christmas has boiled down to buying gifts for people you don't even like at work, buying gifts for your family, and buying gifts for any other person in your life.
Also, it's about being forced to sit with your family and pretend you actually like being around them when in essence they drive you insane.
Honestly, it's one of those holidays that just seem like a bargaining chip to hold over someone's head. "It's Christmas, you should be here spending time with us." If I wanted to spend time with you, I'd see you more during the year wouldn't I? It doesn't help that New Years, my other family members' birthdays and my birthday is all wrapped up between December and January.
So really Christmas is about will-power and trying not to kill yourself or those you love in the process! LOL
