Think of it this way...they couldn't abuse the hospital or welfare system like they do now. And they would have to keep their noses clean.

If illegals wanted to be legal and pay for a work permit, they wouldn't be illegal. I'm not so sure they even want to be documented.
Following your idea would mean they would have to pay taxes, childbirth and other medical would not be free, they wouldn't be able to recieve welfare or qualify for public housing. They are not fighting for their right to be citizens, but for their right to be illegal.
A realistic approach would be to punish the crime and enforce existing immigration laws.

Absolutely not! I agree with ezwider's and several other answers here who disagreed with your "resolution." If it was as simple as what you propose, don't you think someone in government would have proposed this long ago? No, this would NOT work! First of all, the majority of the illegals do NOT want to be legal and have to pay taxes and pay for all of the freebies they presently enjoy. They would NOT come out of the woodwork to sign up for your proposal - no way Jose! The majority of illegals have very low education, most have elementary school level or less, and the majority of them do not care for citizenship "down the road" since they only plan on coming here long enough to make their fortune and then go back home. Most illegals are unskilled and cannot even speak English so they would not even be able to qualify for the jobs that would pay your fictional $48,000 per year. They would, at most, qualify only for minimum wage jobs and so there again, they would be qualifying for almost all of the free social benefits and so would still be costing us at least as much as they cost now, if not more, because they would also bring even more of their friends and family members in along with themselves! The majority of illegals come here illegally because they have criminal records either here or at home and so would NOT even qualify for any kind of legal presence in the USA, even if the offer were made. I know that there ARE some illegals who would take advantage of this "offer," but I believe the numbers are miniscule and no where near the numbers that you propose.

Nice try, though.

It isn't that but from what I seen they have some so many different ids there is no way to know who is who. It's common knowledge that illegals feel they are entitle to do whatever it takes even it if disrupts your life. They are having kids they cannot even take care of they never put any real thought in the choices they make, instead they come to expect everyone else to pick up the tab. The cost of hospital care to kids would eat up any profit there might be. I think they should go back and apply the right way. Saying better life is no excuse to break a record number of laws it's just not right.

I like the concept, but the price is way too low. Understand that a lot of illegals are paying several thousand $ to coyotes just to get across the border - we should be charging at least that much.

Also, illegals have higher costs of government - transations, no insurance, etc. So we need to get all of that cost back, plus a profit margin.

I didn't check your math but I think you ignored a bunch of hidden costs, so it's not all profit like you're claiming.

Anyway, I'm all for having a bidding auction - whoever pays the most, gets the greencard.

The problem is that if it were that easy and that cheap for them to be in America than everyone would come into the country illegally. Why pay three or four times more to apply for a visa that could be denied when you have a guaranteed in.

Excellent, please propose this to the senate and the camera, they must see the financial benefit of an open door for immigrants to become legal residents. I am sure they will pay up to 2000 dollars each one for an opportunity to work legally, then do the math. If they have been leaving in this country for more than 5 years and have a clean criminal record give then resident status.

I am not against work permits, I am more worried about the citizenship- as a viable voting block I fear they would modify America into the shape of Mexico- in less than a century!

That is a bad idea. It's not beneficial to Americans. We should nip this problem in the bud by severely taxing and making it a federal crime to hire illegals. If there is no one willing to hire illegals, it makes the incentive for them to enter this country nearly moot. Your plan lacks practicality.

Absolutely NOT!! They entered ILLEGALLY they should be deported!! They should not get amnesty!! They should not be given anything to encourage them to stay here!!!The money you speak of sounds nice in print, however, they are costing the USA much more than $50 BILLION annually. DEPORT them and remove the PROBLEM. KEEP them and WE, the AMERICAN tax payers, will keep right on paying for their welfare.

ALL immigration needs to be reduced.(Legal and definitely illegal) We should lower the number of immigrants to 200,000 per year or our natural resources and infrastructure will be depleted and/or destroyed to the point we will no longer be capable of providing for the astronomical population we are facing.

Americans need to get their heads out of their butts and pay attention to whats really going on.

They arent interested in doing things the legal way, so even if some decided to go the legal route, the rest would still be doing the same thing their doing now. Which is why they must be removed.
