tips are greatly appreciated but not expected, leave a tip at the end of your stay, but try to give it directly to a housekeeper. if you leave money laying around a good housekeeper wont take it because it could be left behind and not a tip. simiply give them 5 bucks and they ll be happy, any more is fine, less is probably better to not leave one, you dont want to insult them.
i managed a hotel in fla. you would be surprised how gratefull a house keeper is to receive anything. most people dont tip.

Some hotel or resorts have tips all include. Often it is notify in your travel purchase contract.
But if there is no notification you have the choice to give a tip to the cleaning staff if ou like there services and especially if you asked for a special treatment (like a different way to do your bed.)
If I'm staying for a long time i give a small tips at the beginning and the rest at at they end of my visit.

I tip $3-5 every day no matter the type of hotel I stay at. Each day, because you never know when a shift is up and someone else starts the next day.

I leave mine at the end of the stay since they rarely change linens during same guest stays.
Tips depends on how much of a mess is generated . . .
Are we talking 1 traveling adult that just slept and filled 1/2 a garbage can OR a family of kids that trashed the place.
Cleaning staff make not much more salary than waitresses so you figure it from there.

You don't have to make the beds or worry about glasses in the sink, but you should pick stuff up off the floor so they can vacuum, as hotel housekeepers are not supposed to touch the guests' possessions. Most places change the sheets daily (although I've been at places where you can opt out of this and have it changed every few days) and will remake the bed anyway, so there's no point in making it.

Because the housekeepers generally change during the week (rotation, days off, etc.) if you wait to tip at the end of your stay you run the risk of the one that took care of your room the most frequent and the best not being on duty that day.
Tipping daily can be a chore, but I know from very personal experience how appreciated it is.

yes, if you found the service to your liking you should tip the maidservice. You should leave the tip on your pillow on the last day of your stay. Leaving it on the pillow indicates to them that it is a tip. if left anywhere else it might have been left there accidentally. I usually tip 5 dollars a day.

presuming you mean maids, I tip the day i leave and I leave about $2 a night, minimum of $5 if I've stayed more than one night. If my kids come and make an extra mess with potato chips and whatnot...I add a few bucks to that

If you just stay one day you don't need to leave a tip. After day one you should tip each day until you leave. $5.00 is an appropriate tip.
