My husband put his parakeet in the cage with a cockatoo is this ok? If so, Could the parakeet eat the cockatoo food?

No this certainly is not a good idea, Is the cockatoo a baby or a very young bird??? If not he could very well kill or seriously injure the smaller bird. Supervise very closely until you see his reaction, and he accepts him. They should never be thrown together without some ice_breaking first. And most certainly not to the same food question---are you feeding your cockatoo parakeet food??? I CERTAINLY HOPE NOT, because his days are limited, and that is NOT FUNNY**** They each are dependent on you for their health, and well-being so please accept your responsibility and provide them each with their own food requirements---They unfortunately can't provide for theirselves in your home.. I wouldn't suggest putting different types/sizes of birds in the same cage. You wouldn't put a tiger and a house cat in the same cage.

DOn't keep them in the same cage. They are of different species and must not be in the same cage.
