There are public toilets EVERYWHERE. There should be some on every floor of every mall. And the signs are not written in chinese (contrary to what the other guy wrote), the official languages of Hong Kong are English and Chinese. But even so, all washrooms are marked with a sign or outline of a man for the mens room and one of a woman for the ladies room. And unless you go to a very down market mall, the bathrooms are always very clean.

Actually, they are there. It's just that the signs or directions are some what "low profile" and they got lost in all the glitzy neons and advertising.
The locations are usually towards the lesser convenient corners or nooks and crannies because of the extreme cost of commercial floor space everywhere.
But it's sad and true, with the exceptions of 5 star establishments, the cleanliness and quality standards of HK public washrooms are not something to brag about.

I've been two HK twice. I do believe there are public toilets in shopping centers. It doesn't make sense if they don't have it. Just follow the signs or ask someone.
But if you really can't find one, your imaginary friend will help you out. He/She/It will offer you an imaginary toilet. All you have to do is to sit down, relax, and do the business. Remember to imagine there are walls around the toilet as well. After all, you don't want to feel like people watching while you pop.

Why are you barefoot in a shopping center anyway? I wouldn't do it. I'm a slight germophobe and refuse to even use public restrooms except in emergency cases.

Well, actually, we Hong Kongers need to go to bathroom from time to time. There one for female and male on every floor. If you can't find it, then look up, there are usually signs to guide you. Or you can take one of those directory pamphlets so you can find the nearest bathroom. You can also ask, it won't hurt.
