It's almost time for me to renew Norton. Just wondering what you all use for virus protection and what you all think is the best?

Personally, I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)

And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

I can give a few links that offer free virus and spyware removers...!You may be having a virus or spyware installed on your PC. Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at

Trend Micro PC-cillin; results are basically the same as far as detecting virus and all (for Trend Micro/McAfee/and Nortons), but it's much user friendly and much faster. Consumer reports votes it the best, and I have to agree. Originally I had PC-cillin, switched to Nortons, then switched back and glad I did.

I like to use Kasperksy anti-virus because it's doesn't slow down the computer and is effective

if you don't want to pay for it, you can use AOL Active Shield (www.activevirusshield.com/) which is basically a free version of Kaspersky (without some of the non-essential features)...i use it and it's really good...almost no difference from the regular kaspersky

I really don't like Norton but they advertise good. I use the free AVG virus protection and have always found it to be as good as anything out there. Just type AVG in your search engine.
