I recently had plastic surgery and was advised by my plastic surgeon that mederma and vitamin e are a waste of time and may actually make the scar worse. He told me to use medical/cloth tape over the scar... (I have a huge one, about 15 inches long, to remove a botched c-section scar)... just tape, directly onto the scar and leave it until it starts to come off... 4 days or so... comes off in the shower. Then, reapply the tape... he said after 6 months it will be smooth and no bumps or areas of scar tissue.

I can appreciate you wanting to make the scars less noticeable. Over many years there have been as many claims made about various creams and techniques for doing this. Onion extract cream (Mederma), for example, is said to help reduce raised or keloid scars. I cannot personally vouch for its effectiveness or safety and would not recommend you to use it or any similar products, or techniques such as laser resurfacing, without first receiving the advice of a medically-qualified dermatologist. Have a chat with your GP and obtain a referral for objective specialist advice.
